Happy Hump Day, fellow travelers, and amazing people! I'm back to share with you another special morning walk my husband and I embarked on last week. It wasn't a far-off exotic location, but a local gem in our very own town, San Juan, La Union, Philippines. We attended the World Surf League La Union International Pro 2024, held in the heart of the surfing area here in barangay Urbiztondo, just a stone's throw away from our home.
The event, a surf competition renowned for its International Pro Qualifying Series and Long Board Tour, was a collaborative effort of the provincial government of La Union, the United Philippines Surfing Association, the municipality of San Juan, the Department of Tourism, and other stakeholders. The morning started early, just as the sun was beginning to paint the sky with shades of blue. After dropping off our daughter at school, we made our way to the beach, arriving just in time for the competition's start.
The sight was nothing short of mesmerizing. The surfers, decked out in their vibrant gear, were like artists painting on a canvas of waves. There were participants from other countries, like Korea, Japan, and other Asian countries. We watched them for a little less than an hour. It was amazing seeing them play with waves while we, as the audience, cheered from afar. Although the area where the participants swam was a little far, it was still a breathtaking event to witness. The salty breeze played with our hair as we stood there, captivated by the spectacle before us. We took photos, captured videos, and stored countless scenes. Around us, a small crowd had gathered—police officers, judges, and photographers—all there to witness the competition.
As the surfers danced with the waves, the hour hand on our watch moved swiftly. The competition was still in full swing, but our stomachs had their own agenda. We decided to head to a nearby resort for breakfast. The walk was short but filled with laughter and light conversation, making the journey as enjoyable as the destination. At the resort, we indulged in a hearty breakfast and sipped on warm coffee, all the while discussing our favorite moments from the event. The food was delicious, the coffee was comforting, and the company was perfect. After a satisfying meal, we made our way back home, our hearts full and our spirits high.
Looking back, it was a day well spent. It wasn't just about watching a surf competition; it was about enjoying the simple pleasures of life—a walk on the beach, a hearty breakfast, and quality time with a loved one. The World Surf League La Union International Pro 2024 wasn't just an event; it was an experience, one that will be etched in our hearts forever.
Have a good day, my friends!
