Hi there everyone, I hope that you well today, out and about enjoying your #WednesdayWalk to join us and share your walks as a virtual tour in this great community created by the talented .
If you would like to join us, then just click this ink here to find out how! created/hive-155530 and in the meant time, I'd like to introduce you to a few new friends that I met on my day tour of Geelong, a lovely little city on the on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula a couple of weeks ago.
It was the first day out of lockdown and after being inside for 3 months and only venturing out to buy the essentials and for the occasional walk, it was so good to get out and see a place that I have not seen for about 10 years and it was even better to make a whole bunch of new friends along the way too!
So first off, I'd like to introduce you to Timothy, Mabel, William, Sarah and Henry, as they stood at the bottom of the footpath to welcome me to the area.
I stood with them for a while as we chatted about the wet weather, gazing out to the sea.
Sarah and Henry asked me to stay for lunch, but unfortunately I had to go as I had only just arrived and had such little time left to explore.
Mabel asked me if I wanted to play with her dolly too, but I apologised to her, explaining that I didn't have a lot of time and would come back again to see her one day.
Sarah looked very dismayed as I asked Timothy for directions
but Timothy was very understanding as he nodded the way forward along the foreshore walk
To where I came across Herbert reading the local newspaper
I didn't want to intrude as Herbert looked very focused on the articles in the newspaper
Hearing his muffled grunts, I was very curious to see what Herbert was reading so glanced over his shoulder at the historic Geelong Advertiser
And saw some very interesting articles in there.
Briefly taking his eyes away from the paper, Herbert then took a moment to quickly point me in the direction of the pier,
where Captain O'Malley and Rear Admiral Percival stood, observing the incoming ships
After a polite nod from the Captain and some small chit chat from the Admiral
Rear Admiral Percival, glanced at the time and pointed me in the direction of the food stalls attached to some of the fishing trawlers
where I met Molly, Scully and Pirate Pete standing around, having a chat about the latest fresh seafood haul as Molly waited for more customers to come to her stall.
After I checked out the menu and had a chat to them, I left to wander around and take more photos, when I came across these lifeguards
I think that these guys must have had a big night, because the guy in front is still wiped out and the other guys is still off his face too!
As I kept wandering, I spotted the Volunteer Rifle Band playing the Polka at the Steamboat Gardens.
After they finished playing the Geelong Polka, I wandered towards the beach, where I spotted these lifeguards protecting the beach volleyball players
I thought this one was rather handsome so snuck in another photo of him and he smiled shyly at me!
I said goodbye and kept wandering though the beautiful park until I came across this sad clown and stopped to make him laugh and cheer him up a bit.
He confided in me that he had fallen in love with the enchanting Isabella many years before
But her heart had been stolen from him by Samuel
But his older sister Miss Primrose Smith forbade Samuel to carry on the affair
But despite this, Samuel and Isabella bore a child, now grown into a manchild by the name of Jonathon
Who was being wooed to play football by local coach Francis
but Jonathon wanted to be his own man and had always dreamed of joining the circus
To be just like his older friend Pierre here, who he had been pestering to teach him the ropes
As it was Pierre's job to stand around and promote the exciting events of the day
but Pierre had his eye on other sights
And other things on his mind
And that was to become a lifeguard- a hero like these guys
So he could win the heart of the Yacht clubs bayside beauty, Winsome Redman
As Winsome was a very popular and handsome woman thought Pierre
but unfortunately, Winsome only had eyes for Fireman Fred, as he stood there, large, pumping hose in his hand
Always at the ready for any fire, large or small
And Winsome was happy to look out at that view all day long!
However Fred was long ago married to Mavis
Who seemed to be more in love with her Gin & Tonics than him these days
And life in their little town went round and round, sobbed the sad clown.
Now that was my story about these colourful characters, but if you click on this link, you will learn the truth from them instead https://www.tourismgeelongbellarine.com.au/watch-bollards-come-life-activate-geelong-bollards/
and using Augmented reality is such a great way to entertain people of all ages and teach them about the history of the area and some of the local characters.
Unfortunately for me, I was so busy ding my Wednesday Walk and dodging the constant rain, that I didn't have time to try out the app, but I know I certainly will next time I get there.
So here's a peak at what to expect when you get a chance to come and use the AR app one day yourselves with this Video by Visit Geelong and The Bellarine
I hope that you enjoyed my little version of their lives- as told to me by the sad clown...and I hope that this #makemesmile too..but I hope that you enjoy checking out the real story of the Bollards created by now deceased local artist Jan Mitchell, her assistant John Starr, https://intown.com.au/locals/geelong/attractions/bollards.htm first sculpted and shaped by carver and prop maker Pieter Roos, with the current tech being created by Marc-O-Matic https://www.marcomatic.com/ and Virtualex https://virtualex.com.au/
To learn exactly how they were made, the ideas and stories behind each bollard, check out this link here too. https://seegeelong.com.au/geelong-bollards/
