It is almost evening... I look up to see what the sky is like, because from the comfort of my bed I can hear the lightning threatening... The wind, faithful companion of adversity, is not far behind and its presence is also evident. I look at my daughter, and just then (oh, surprise...) she says to me: "Mummy, remember to go and buy food for the kittens". I cursed my luck....
I knew I had to leave the comfort and warmth of my bed, to venture out into a, more than likely, rain that would soak me, and most probably nurse me.... But it was either go out and buy the kibble for our kittens, or risk that probably the next day (all this calculation, in my mind providing excuses not to get out of bed) there would be no more in the shop.
So I went, sat down on the edge of the bed ..... With the worst face possible, I half combed my hair. Halfway between untangling and shaping, I saw a cap of my girlfriend's on top of the TV, and without thinking I picked it up and put it on my head. I got dressed, and before I left I took my umbrella with me as well. It was only a matter of minutes before the rain fell indiscriminately over the city.
Something told me that because of the shade of light coming from the water-covered clouds, the occasional picture might turn out well.... So I also took my mobile phone with me. I leave the house, start my walk, and without thinking about it I realise something... Indeed, today will be a rainy and grey day but somehow I had to make some splendour and profit from it.
They say there is beauty in the darkness before the storm. In this case, I don't know if the rain that fell on San Diego (Venezuela) could be called that (a storm) but what I do know is that in a way it was necessary and at the same time, it was also annoying. For passers-by like me, who carry things in their hands, such as keys, mobile phone and wallet to pay, getting wet can be an inconvenience.
Not to mention the foggy glasses or raindrops that increase my already impaired vision. Nevertheless, and despite the odds, I went out and captured a few scenes that I came across as the low light diffused by rain clouds provided a somewhat contrasting atmosphere. Certainly, rain has a nostalgic and lonely feel to it, and that's what I captured without really looking for it?
Sometimes, the road we travel is also the destination we have to travel... In this case, and after my anecdote, I have to say that it's completely true... The funny thing is that this whole walk had its origin in my little girl's reminder about the food that the kittens needed, and about the urgency of having to go promptly because there was a risk that it would run out... Do you know what ended up happening? It rained, of course, I got wet; naturally.... And when I got to the shop; they hadn't opened all day.... "I see you got wet, miss", says a man who is sheltering from the rain... Inside I think to myself "mentally, I'm still in my bed".
