Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I'm here with a fun bit of pictures from the fair we recently went to!
Wednesday Fair Walk
For New England, one of the things that is a highlight of the late summer and early fall season is that it's filled with all kinds of really fun fairs and places to go! This one is no different. The Topsfield Fair is one of America's oldest running fairs and it only runs for a little over one week! It's incredible how short it is lol I never used to go because I couldn't commit to taking the time out for it but now that we have the little man, we've made it a point to do all of these things as often as we can so we expose him to all kinds of different things than what we did as kids. I know as a kid I never really went to these fairs, and I think it's likely due to the financial cost of it and my parents not having enough.
With the little man though, we try to sacrifice cost to make sure that he has fun and is able to enjoy some of the important activities besides being inside glued to a device or a TV.
One of his recent passions has been trains! When we visited some of my family, they have a great train set and he was loving it. I know that we've seen trains all over the place in many different areas but he hasn't gotten to get up close to a train set like he has in recent times and he's loving it. I think that in our future is going to be a room dedicated to trains! Lol
The fair also had some good other things, as we've seen in the past, with the animals. They do a great job, and I think it shouldn't be surprising, to see a very animal and farm focused amount of things. I guess fairs are more farm driven as it's a time for farmers to get out there and win some prizes for best cow, best pig etc. We've certainly kept up the tradition here in New England! The fair is always a big hit and people drive or fly in from all around to come check it out.
The fair has a lot of horse events, from having the horses trot around in a giant stadium arena, to just simply walking them around and showing people the horses. These particular horses here were show horses that were going to participate on one later. We got to have a sneak preview of one of them that wasn't going to be in the show later that day which was cool. The trainer stuck to the one side of the fence for a while and the little man was hungry so we didn't pursue it a lot further than where we were standing. It was still cool to see it though!
After he was done with the meal we got, we headed back to the trains! The meal we got was actually a phenomenal roasted turkey leg, one of my favorite fair snacks to get! Not all of the fairs have them but they are amazing. Turkey's are a far bigger animal than their chicken brethren which translates into much better meat and quantities of meat on the bones. This makes them cost a bit more than others but damn is it delicious. We actually went to a local farm and bought some turkey legs after the fair because the little man ended up enjoying it so much lol.
Back to the trains though, what was cool was that there was a list of things for the kiddos to find in the town that was set up. Some of it was easy like a pink cadillac but others were a little more challenging such as having to find Mr. Topemhat from Thomas! That fella took us a while to find but it was cool. I think in the end we ended up spending about 45 minutes at the train display lol it was the most amount of time we spent at a single attraction!
What's a fair or carnival for kids without getting to ride on a carousel! I didn't want to go on many of the other rides as they are kinda sketchy lol but the carousel is one that I don't mind as it's not too easy for us to get out of there if shit hits the fan and the machine breaks haha.
The little man was entertained on this one and it ended up being nice and fun, we were the only ones around that were interested in the carousel so the operator let us stay on it for easily 5 minutes where it should have been likely a 75 second ride lol. So we had a good time with that, and the little man got to have fun on a ride which was a big win!
I've got a bunch more pictures that I need to sort through but these were the easiest ones to get to so I started with these ones first! My old phone sadly is filling up with lots of stuff and running out of storage space so now I've had to start bringing my work phone where we go places so I can actually take some pictures lol. One day I'll get a new phone!
