Hi guys. First time walking on a Wednesday.
No, that's not true.
But this is my first time posting in the group, and the first time in a while since I've had a Wednesday off from my flesh-and-blood IRL day job of healing bodies of various ailments, mostly car accidents, with my bare hands.
Anyway...
On this particular Wednesday I had nobody on my schedule and sunny skies for hours. The perfect opportunity to go out and test the image quality of my brand new pocket camera, purchased primarily for capturing good res videos of crows, but as far as the IRS knows only used for business texts, emails, and the rare and endangered phone call day for a walk.
Really been waiting for the most eloquent opportunity to use strikethough.
Really think I waited too long.
Pilot and I walked a quarter mile to visit my friend Bo.
I know you got shit ta do,
but these videos are short and sweet.
Please watch them.
After visiting these buddies, we walked home and I made a special meal just for Bo's little brother and sister, because I'm in the crow lady club and that's how we do.
I walked back out to where my car was parked and served breakfast.
Watch out for that Junior. She's a real dragon.
Most of the day was spent outdoors, wandering about and looking up. I was pretty impressed with the new toy's ability to pick out the crows in the shadows. Much better than the old camera phone. Worth the debt. But when I saw the brown creeper, I had to whip out the DSLR.
These birds live in Portland, but they're tiny and stealthy and I don't see them often. It doesn't help that I have a constant crow posse following me around, scaring off the rest of the urban wildlife (and the occasional bird-fearing pedestrian, yessss), but I do relish that dilemma.
As the day waned, the clouds rolled in. Living in the Pacific Northwest, our falls and winters are perpetually smothered by a thick wet blanket which I believe was conspiratorially designed to put out the fire in our souls so that we'll be numbly content to watch more netflix and buy more things on prime. When the sun does peek out, it's at an awkward southern angle that makes the entire day feel like 10am.
Until it's not 10am at all but 3:30pm and less than an hour before sunset and where the hell did the day go?!
We booked it over to the middle school to visit more crows we know.
The school is a mile from where we live. When we were in full pandemic mode, the grounds were open and it was a dog and crow party every day. Now school is back in session, and we get precious few moments with our friend Basketball Sunny between school's-out and sun's-off.
Sunny's cute.
We met on the basketball court.
It was love at first sight.
Her favorite thing in the whole world is peanuts.
When I leave she'll sometimes fly over and tap me with her feet to see if she can knock a couple more nuts out of me.
Normally Pilot and I walk another mile down to a spot where crows like to have a pre-roost party, but the weather was feeling scroogey or grinchy or like whomever its idolized holiday party pooper may be. It took the temperature down to a few notches above freezing and proceeded dump rain like I dump photos on unsuspecting hive groups.
Crow Was Here.
Too bad they didn't write the date.
We swam home.
I was bummed.
Here are a couple shots from the other night, when the weather was in a good mood and put on a light show for the crow party.
Once home, we toweled off. As I dropped the towel in the hamper I glanced up at the top of a shelf where I had mindlessly shoved some ancient childhood toys during one of my reorganization rampages on my tiny apartment.
Birds do it. Bees do it. Everyone else is doin' it except me...🙄
...but do the inanimate objects in my apartment have to do it?
Right in front of my face?
Just to mock me?
Thanks a lot, Wednesday.
I'm going to bed.
YouTube Channel yes, please, help the crow lady monetize...
