A walk in the Aegean, when Turkey was home
Türkiye evdeyken Ege'de bir yürüyüş
Hello walkers and friends!
This post is different, this walk is also different. Because we all think of Turkey now, unfortunately, and memories come to mind, I remember walking through its wonderful places. A magical and very special country that deserves the best, and we all are praying.
So today, a little nostalgically, and also as a tribute, I wanted to share with you a pleasant and beautiful old walk along the coast of the Aegean Sea, from the city of Izmir, although it is in Turkey, it is at the other end of the country. Still, everyone from near or far feels the same pain, because many images of the disaster come to all of us, and my eyes fill with tears so I think of the beautiful days, in Turkey.
Today #WednesdayWalk in this amazing community inspired by is dedicated to Turkey with all my heart. A place that became my city, my neighborhood and my home, maybe less time than I would have liked.
Here we go, directly facing the sea in the bay of the wonderful city of Izmir of which I keep many memories. I have been lucky enough to live near the sea, but perhaps that was when it was closest, and from the door it already smelled of the sea... a haven of peace in the city.
A stone path that borders a part of the coast so that we can follow it without fear, listening to the sea crash against the largest stones while the small boats rock. And as in any walk, the palm trees always accompany us.
We walk until we reach the end, we want more, we go to the other side where little by little we begin to see the view of the city, the center and the heart of Izmir now it seems far away, but there is so much life and movement there. Now from here it is not perceived, only tranquility.
We turn around again following the sun that is slowly going down, sunset time is coming, and suddenly I realize that some photos take on a different tone, gold, or in an old style that makes everything seem overflowing with calm. As if the photographs themselves knew that they were going to become a longed-for past moment, they already took on that ancient color at that moment of the sun.
And people walk around us, because there is tranquility and that peace that they have sadly lost now, they had it there. I remember those benches where many sit to contemplate the sea, how many times have I sat there to dream, to stop thinking or to cry! Tears that are now many, those of so many people who suffer...
It is difficult to write counting a simple walk. A walk where we saw happy people having a drink, playing with colored balls and flying kites. Images of happiness.
Every moment there is less light, and on the other side, more palm trees, of course, and a charming place, a garden, a terrace located on an artificial pond that seems to come out of nowhere. But that gives harmony to the whole environment. Everything is even more peaceful and beautiful and you don't want to leave and come back home.
But the day ends, and the walk ends too. The sun is warning us, its light is ending, but let's hope that it will illuminate another new day, with more hope, especially for so many people who are living a nightmare. Broken dreams, broken land, broken buildings, broken lives and broken souls.
I'm so sad, I love you Turkey.
Çok üzgünüm, seni seviyorum Türkiye.
Thanks for reading! Have a hopeful and peaceful day.
Happy Wednesday!
