While on a recent trip to Northumberland, UK, we visited Alnwick Gardens, a popular visitor attraction known for its beautifully designed gardens.
This is my #wednesdaywalk initiated by .
It is part of the larger Alnwick Estate, near Alnwick Castle. The site covers several acres and has a range of themed areas, making it an interesting place to explore.
One of the main features is the Grand Cascade, which is a large set of water fountains and pools.
A mallard duck had taken up residence in one of the pools. If there is any water about, a duck will be there!
There is also a treehouse section. The Treehouse Restaurant is built among the trees and connected by wooden walkways.
Another well known part is the Poison Garden. This area contains plants that are harmful or toxic. Visitors can only enter on guided tours (I wonder why?) 😄 We gave it a miss in favour of prettier things.
The gardens also include a rose garden, a bamboo labyrinth, and open lawns. There are areas for children to play in, so there's something for everyone.
We really enjoyed walking around the different areas of the gardens. The weather was fairly mild, which was good. There were plenty of places to stop and sit to take in the views. Overall, Alnwick Gardens is a mix of traditional gardens and modern attractions.
