For my #wednesdaywalk by , I decided to have a walk round my home town of Chesterfield while my two friends went shopping. First port of call was the old indoor market hall established in 1857.
Back in 2013, the hall was refurbished inside. Unfortunately, each individual shop unit inside has a step, so disabled people can't get inside the actual shops. It wasn’t thought out properly!
Even though Scarsdale Brewery isn't here any more I'm pleased they've still left the plaque on the wall as a part of history. It was closed in 1959, a year after I was born.
This is the town's information centre. The glass walls are used as display panels with information about famous people from Chesterfield. One is goalkeeper, Gordon Banks who played for England when we won the World Cup in 1966. He was the best goalie in the world back then.
We used to have a busy market but apart from the flea market, it's usually empty. Some people say the rent is too high and the Council will say they have to cover the insurance. Not sure what the answer is.
The Mock Tudor buildings were built in the 1920s and 1930s and were mostly public houses. Mock Tudor was fashionable at the time.
This is one of my favourite shops in town. It sells retro items, some of them are from my youth.
The last part of my walk was at the Crooked Spire. In the 13th century, the lead on the wood became too heavy for the spire, resulting in it becoming crooked. There are a few variations of the story though.
