Hello everyone! š
I hope you are fine and enjoying this beautiful day of summer! š
I'll begin this post by reminding you that I live in Sibiu which is the heart of Transylvania, Romania, so all the summers are basically full of events, contests and festivals, sometimes having 2 or 3 going on at the same time, so there's plenty of things to see in the city!
While in the past few years my summers been busy with the yearly road trip I take with my family around Romania, 2022 seems like being dedicated more to the local events which also makes me create new memories while enjoying some experiences for the first time.
A 'first time' was also attending at the finish line while waiting for the participants of the Sibiu Cycling Tour 2022 to cross it and since both I and my boyfriend have a guilty pleasure for this sport, everything was a lot more entertaining than just seeing so many cyclists in a single place.
We arrived in Piata Mare (Great Square) with 20-30 minutes earlier before the cyclists crossed the finish line, but we had enough time to walk around, take pictures of the sponsors' flags, the trail the participants were about to follow, to check the team tents, and even find a good spot where to stay and wait for the beautiful moment.
However, I noticed a lot of spectators coming with their own bikes which was also our first thought but since we expected to see lots of people, we considered a better idea to just enjoy a walk and postpone the moment when we will ride our bikes again.

While everyone was busy either looking for a place where they can stay and watch the whole show or keeping their eyes fixed on the big monitors that were sharing live moments where the cyclists are, the wait came to an end really fast. The whole silence was interrupted by the cars of the teams, photographers and videographers that took part in the tour, but also by people's applause which were louder.
Sibiu Cycling Tour represents the single such event that happens in Romania and this year it was composed of 4 stages and one prologue that were held between 2-5th July. The whole magic started on Saturday with a short ride in the ASTRA Open-air Museum that was only 2,3km long, being followed by 3 days full of rides and competition, the longest one being held on Sunday with a 207km long trail between Brezoi - Jina - Sibiu.
However, amongst the most spectacular trail was on Monday that took the cyclists on the famous Transfagarasan Road until Balea Lake where even if it was 180km long, the efforts pedalling on a long inclined surface were a lot bigger than in the previous day.
While the cyclist took their time to meet their teams and supporters or even just for a quick break before going up on the stage, we enjoyed the advantage of finally being able to walk between them and the cars that were carrying so many bikes, and of course, take some more pictures.
The award ceremony came with lots of prizes for both the winners of this stage but also for the grand winners of the whole tour, including prizes for the best teams, the fastest rider on inclined surfaces, the most points accumulated, and a lot more.
Giovanni Aleotti was the grand winner who not only celebrated the moment of being the leader of the general ranking but also the leader of the most points collected. He also won for the 2nd time in a row the Sibiu Cycling Tour which is a premiere in the whole history of this event.
Lukas Meiler managed to get home with three rewards including the titles of being the leader on the inclined surfaces, the leader of the fastest cyclists but also the most combative cyclist in the race.
Of course, after so many rewards and celebrations, everything came to an end with the famous fight with champagne which I've also seen for the first time other than on TV.
Did you ever attend such an event, even just as a spectator? š
