Hi All, I've not made it out for a proper walk today (apart from the school pick-up) and so I'm relying on a walk I had in the German city of Ulm, while I was there with work a few weeks back. Work was full on while there, but I made the point of getting out for a short walk by the river so that atleast I saw something of the city. And what a river - its the Danube !
The walk along the river was quite nice and there were a number of art-type installations around. This was by far the coolest one. I think you can climb to the top of this, but it was quite early when I passed it, and it had some kind of pay barrier at the bottom - so I didnt try it - but I really wanted to !
Our hotel (above) was right by the river path which was really handy. When I went out it was raining a little, but not too bad, and it was nice to walk along and see the sites.
The river path was quite busy with joggers and cyclists (I assume going to work).
I spotted this floating restaurant, the Boot Shaus, which translates as boathouse, above, which looked quite nice. I didnt have time during this trip to visit it, but maybe next time !
The river forked further up from the hotel and has quite a nice island with some sort of monument on the tip.
The cycle path along the riverside was really nicely set-up - what a great way to get to and from work each day ! Much better than sitting in traffic !
The old tower above sat one street back from the river - I love the arch through the bottom - and it seemed to be keeping the right time !
Above you can see another of the art sculptures from along the river - not quite sure what this one is ! But I still like it - I think it is nice that the city has made an effort to make the riverfront nice and interesting.
Above is another pic of the spiral-staircase-thingy, showing its situation over looking the river - it must have nice views !
And I found this memorial above to Max Eyth, who was a German engineer, draftsman and writer. He was born in Ulm in 1836.
I also loved this tree which was sitting on the river edge - all the ducks seem to love it too - they are all sitting below it (the pic is not great but you can just see them at the waters edge).
Well I'm glad I made it out for a walk - it would have been a shame to have gone all that way and not seen anything of the city.
All the best until next Wednesday ! cheers
