My wife and I have been working from home since the start of the covid pandemic. When we started working from home we began to make more of an effort to get out for a walk when we could, because we needed a break from the house, and it has led to us finding new paths, routes and walks near our house in Edinburg that we otherwise would not have found. One of the walks we like to take, is through the Dean Cemetery - sounds morbid, but its really pretty.
We managed to get out for a walk today and went through the cemetery. There was a lovely clear blue sky and that combined with the low winter sun which was casting lovely long shadows made for quite a nice walk.
The cemetery is a few hundred years old with the majority of the graves dating from the 1800s - although there are many from the 1900s, and some that are fairly recent.
There are some quite prominent graves of some fairly well to do people from Edinburgh. The pyramid above is one of our favourites, and we usually walk past it each time when there - it is made from marble and appears to have been put in place in the 1800s, but has hardly aged at all - probably due to it being built from marble.

Some of the trees are quite impressive and fit the graveyard 'look' quite well. We've not been there at night time, but I guess they'd quite add to the ambience and creep factor of the setting.
Although its quite close to the centre of Edinburgh, you'd find it hard to believe because it is always peaceful in there and you cant hear any traffic - and on days like today, its quite spectacular.
The graveyard its right next to the museum of modern art which is the building you can just see in the background of the pic above. There is a gate that leads from one to the other, which is also quite nice, because the grounds of the museum are also really pretty, due to the sculptures and art installations they have in place (which I will need to be cover in a future post !).
Well it certainly was worth the walk today, and it gave us a good break at lunch time before we headed back to the house to get back to work.
I also snapped this church which is just opposite the graveyard - the beautiful blue colour of the sky was working as a fantastic background to the orange stone - so I couldn't help but take a pic !
