This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, (of the #wednesdaywalk) and
(of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.
If you want to know more about the rules, visit this post by where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.
After last week's post about our night at the rugby, I wanted to get some photos of Kings Park Stadium during the day as well.
So, so last weekend we went down to the stadium to take some photos.
But while in the area, I decided to go for a walk on Battery Beach. It is one of the beaches, which forms part of the popular "Golden Mile" in Durban.
Battery Beach is located on the northern end of the Golden Mile, just before you get to the Suncoast Casino. It is known as one of the more quiet beaches that is less crowded. It's a nice beach for families to come and relax on the beach and play around in the water as there are normally lifeguards on duty.
Lifeguards at work...
Haha... No, as you can see, the photo above is a photo of a photo. This is a photo of members of the Pirates Lifeguard Club though.
But to put it in full perspective, this photo is displayed on the wall of their clubhouse as you can see in the next photo.
I believe the club is open to the public at certain times when you can sit down and enjoy your breakfast and/or have something to drink there. We definitely want to do that sometime.
In the next photo, I walked around to the side of the building to get a shot of the wall art on the side of their building. If you look to the right in the photo, you can actually catch a glimpse of some people who were sitting down for something to eat while we passed there.
Looking south, this is the beginning of the Golden Mile, with the city of Durban on your right and the ocean on your left.
To our immediate right, was the Blue Waters Hotel...a popular hotel for holiday accommodation.
We started our walk toward the beach and this little palm tree caught my attention...
We headed out to one of the piers on the beach.
There are little benches all along the pier where you can sit down and just enjoy being at the ocean.
One thing you will always find when you're at the ocean...rust.
All along the pier are lamp posts to provide light at night time...
...and as you can see in the last photo and the next, from here, the pier is slightly elevated from this point on.
Sitting down on one of those little benches, we just admired the ocean and I enjoyed the waves coming in, listening to the sound of the waves breaking onto the beach...
Looking inland and up north, you can see the Suncoast Casino ( where we parked our car) when we went to the rugby match. This is from where we walked to get to the stadium.
The arch that is visible behind the Suncoast Casino buildings, is the Moses Mabhida Soccer Stadium, which is right next to the King Stadium where we watched the game.
If you look to the extreme right in the photo above, you'll see the top of a "dome-like" building.
Walking to the stadium, that is where we pass until we eventually take a left turn toward the stadium.
In the next photo, looking down south, this is the view of the lower end of Durban from the pier on Battery Beach.
Zooming out, to get a wider view, including more of the city of Durban.
Returning to the promenade, the pier stretched out ahead of us toward the beach.
Where you see it narrowing down is where you can get off the pier to go onto the beach or choose to continue straight to go back up to the promenade.
Leaving the pier behind, going up to the promenade...
And that was our walk for the day.
Thank you for reading my post!
I do appreciate it!
