21st March 2024
The highly anticipated event in the spring season here in Hong Kong has come, and visitors from all walks of life, including myself, were excited to see the beauty of spring. The Hong Kong annual Flower Show started on the 15th of March and runs until the 24th. I was able to see this show last Sunday when my friend invited me to go with her. It was getting dark when we arrived at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay, so we were anticipating more stunning floral displays with vibrant light effects at night.
This has been an iconic attraction every year to welcome spring. After some years of hiatus due to the last pandemic, it was reopened last year with the theme Bliss in Bloom. For this year 2024, the theme is Floral Joy Around Town featuring Angelonia flowers this time.
I've been to different flower shows in different years, I guess four times already. The theme varies each year showcasing different aspects of nature, and the amazing talents of different horticulturist experts. The sense of enchantment and creative designs are what attract visitors. Aside from the featured flower, there is a wide variety of flowers and plants formed into beautiful landscape designs.
The entire place is turned into a floral wonderland at night. The flower exhibition had undergone a magical transformation, leaving me in awe and astonishment. It was as though I was transported to a fantasy land where various plants and flowers came to life. Every floral installation is incredibly stunning with spectacular multimedia light effects.
The night indeed is the best time to visit the HK Flower Show. Synchronized with the music, wave-like light effects complemented the tulip field beautifully. Tulip blooms appear as though they are glittering stars that have fallen from the starry sky. A different universe is cast upon this part which is a breathtaking sight.
With the theme Floral Joy Around Town, different floral exhibitions are inspired by different cultures and races that also exist in Hong Kong. It gives us a joyful tour of different floral-themed towns.
Let's start with, of course, the Chinatown showing a vibrant Chinese culture and decorations. The giant teapot adorned with flowers was the main attraction, alongside vibrant yellow and red lanterns. There's a sense of festivity and joy everywhere and visitors are having fun.
Thai-themed displays are always part of the Flower Show exhibition each year. Perhaps, it's due to the big influence of Thai culture in Hong Kong. The yellow flowers and green elephant are too adorable. The native hut adorned with Thai decorations looks so comfy to stay in.
Let's go to the Middle East. The giant floral moon and pink floral mosque are captivating. By this time, my friend left and I was on my own, thus, there was no one to take souvenir shots for me. I did enjoy taking photographs of different installations and allowed myself to be immersed in the enchanting surroundings.
This looks like a Portuguese design inspired by architecture in Macau.
A floral house with a tulip garden and colorful flowers around. All installations have queues and a lot of photobombers, so it's really hard to get a solo selfie with the house.
This looks like an enchanting house of mythical creatures from a fantasy story.
The King, his royal guard, and his kingdom are surrounded by vibrant flowers.
This joyful tour around floral towns allowed us to immerse ourselves in breathtaking and creative floral displays while having a delightful escape from bustling cityscapes. At the same time, it gives environmental awareness about the importance of green spaces in urban areas that we often take for granted.
It was such a delightful walk seeing the beauty of spring in full blooms. There are still a few days remaining before this closes. If you are in Hong Kong, don't miss this grand floral show.
Thanks for your time.
