"The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let things go."
- Anonymous
It's now the winter season here in Hong Kong, yet the autumn transition has yet to show its full foliage in some parts of the region. I bet it's the effect of climate change. Things happen later than they used to. Albeit late, the leaves on trees that were once green are now starting to transform into vibrant colors. My anticipation for the magical transformation of the season finally came!
The air is getting cold, and vibrant foliage now begins to paint the surroundings. It's when I begin to walk in places to catch autumn foliage, although in the winter season. The Lingnan Garden is one of those places to see autumn foliage in Hong Kong, which is just so close to my residential area. Moreover, it's also a great place to take a walk in nature and temporarily disconnect from the bustling city.
All I have to do is take a stroll through this garden when hiking isn't on my mind. I go here to take in the scenery and let go of some worries. I can imagine myself being instantly transported to a serene forest.
Most of the trees in Lingnan Garden are adorned with verdant green. But autumn trees, like sweet gum trees, were planted in some spots of it. When fall arrives, their leaves change into shades of vibrant orange, red, and gold.
This tree will fully display its vivid hues in a few weeks when its orange and red pigments fully emerge. I was impatient not to wait a little longer, as I had more plans on my bucket list.
Some trees' leaves, turning yellow, beautifully complement the green surroundings.
A fusion of verdant green, vibrant autumn leaves and colorful flowers truly captivates one's sight.
After walking along the tree-lined jogging track, I went through the amphitheater. I saw Indonesian women who seemed to be getting ready for an event. Initially, I believed it to be a pageant or a celebration of some Indonesian custom. However, I discovered after doing some image-searching that the costume they wear is actually a traditional bridal dress.
All participants seemed to wear the same kind of Indonesian traditional dress with intricate designs adorned with embroidery, beads, and laces. All wear the same headdresses, which are decorated with flowers. While some were well-prepared, others were busy doing make-up and fixing costumes. There's a sense of togetherness among the Indonesian ladies. They all look beautiful in their dresses.
I walked towards the lake, where I immersed myself in nature's embrace. Trees start to show vibrant autumn foliage.
By the lake, where the ground is covered in fallen, withered leaves, I strolled beneath autumn trees. The sound of the soft crunching leaves beneath my shoes was pleasant to hear. It brought back memories of my early years when I used to step on dried leaves just to hear the crunch. It was satisfying.
Getting used to being in this park, I canceled my afternoon plan to see a Christmas display somewhere in the city. My entire afternoon was thus spent exploring the park, watching K-series up to my content, and sitting on a bench to listen to the bird's chorus.
At the end of the day, I made my way to the restaurant located across the road and ordered some good food. A pot of braised pork chop belly with tofu satisfied my hungry tummy with rice and hot lemon tea.
I went home feeling grateful and content with the scenery I'd seen during the day, the funny K-series I watched that entertained me, and the delicious food I ate.
That's all for today's #WednesdayWalk.
Happy hump day!
