"The light at the end of the tunnel is well worth the journey it took to get there."
-Amber Kanady
Indeed it's worth the journey to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but, what if the tunnel itself is full of lights? Then it's a romantic and magical place!
I must say that the last day of my CNY holiday was so worth it. It wasn't just one pretty place that I have visited, but a few places in Shatin.
After visiting the Snoopy World and enjoyed seeing kids playing with Peanuts friends, I went up the hill to visit the 10K Buddhas Monastery. It was such a warm-up exercise climbing up the hill in a cold afternoon. Then before dawn, I settled in a resting area of New Town Plaza to eat the food I bought for dinner. I was surprised to see the cherry blossom trees installation, and that was another attraction I visited.
At night after eating my dinner, I looked for the way to the riverside with the help of Google Maps. I saw some pretty posts about it on FB and so I thought of visiting it since I was in Shatin Town already.
Tunnel of Lights at Shatin Riverside
The riverside is just actually a few minute's walks from Snoopy World, contrary to what a Filipina said that it's a bit far. From the distance, I already spotted the glimmering tunnel of lights and it made me more excited to see it closely.
As I got to the place, there were two giant bunny lanterns at the entranceway and glowing lotus flowers on the ground. The place was covered by lights, and even tree trunks were wrapped by glimmering lights of different colors. The place looks enchanting and magical.
As I walked farther, I spotted the first tunnel of lights. On both sides were more lights and bunny lantern decorations and their reflections on the water were fascinating.
It's a digital lighting tunnel with moving and changing light colors. Visitors were enjoying taking videos and photos of it.
In all honesty, it was my first time walking through a digital lighting tunnel with moving lights and I truly enjoyed it. You can check the YouTube video above to see the moving lights of the tunnel.
Moving forward, I spotted another illuminating giant bunny lantern. The 5th of February, by the way, is Lantern Festival and that's the main reason why there are a lot of illuminating thematic lanterns around Hong Kong, along with the celebration of Chinese New Year. It's a long significant celebration, and the end of CNY is on the day of the Lantern Festival which is also the start of spring.
I walked farther to the riverside and saw more lighting lanterns and beautiful lights. Despite the time, there were still more people going to the bridge.
Stretching across the Shing Mun River in Shatin premise is 160 km Lek Yuen Bridge. It was opened in 1988 with a pavilion at the southern end.
This pedestrian footbridge is one of the main attractions in Shatin, especially during special events as it is decorated with glimmering lights. Not just the bridge, but the fences along the river and nearby bridges, making the place look beautiful and romantic at night.
The footbridge was covered with lights creating a tunnel across the bridge. As I passed through it, I couldn't keep myself from admiring the place and taking photos of the lights. It's definitely a perfect backdrop for different photoshoots, making the night so perfect as well.
How romantic it is for couples walking through this tunnel of lights. Of course, not just for couples, but for solitary wanderers. This will end soon so I didn't miss the chance to take a souvenir shot of this beautiful bridge covered with lights.
People are going to this riverside not just because of this attraction, but because it offers a perfect place for resting and unwinding. The night is undeniably the perfect time to visit this place. There are benches by the riverside where visitors could rest while admiring the beauty of the river, the tranquil night, and those fascinating reflections in the water.
Did I say it's also a perfect time to bike along the riverside? I was uncertain though if the bicycles on the sides were for rent because these bicycles don't have a lock and anyone can freely use them. I even rode on it, just to take photos, lol. Bicycles are for rent probably, but the renter didn't mind putting the bicycle back in the parking area.
Not just bicycles, if you'll scroll up, you'll see a photo where there are parked pedal cabs on the side of the river. We call those pedicabs in our country. Those are truly perfect for couples. Bicycling along the river with those pretty lights backdrop at a tranquil night is definitely romantic. I wished I had a lot of time. I should've pedaled the bicycle and roamed along the riverside. It's been a long time since I ride one, I should try it the next time I visit this place or any place with bicycles.
My night ended beautifully with a wonderful experience in the tunnel of lights at Shatin Riverside. I went back home with a content heart and new memories. I may be a solitary wanderer, but definitely don't feel alone and lonely when traveling š.
That concludes my #WednesdayWalk for today. Have a beautiful day out there and you š.
