Hello everyone, I hope you had a nice walk today. ๐ This is my entry for the #wednesdaywalk challenge, initiated by . This time I walked through the oldest and one of my favorite spots in Belgrade. It is Kosancicev Venac or โThe Wreath of Kosancicโ.
When you are in this place, you will go back to the old days long gone.
It is a group of streets that have maintained the original form of an urban settlement from the second half of the 18th century. But for me, it is more than a group of streets. Here you can see authentic old houses that withstood the test of time. The most famous Serbian mathematician, Mihailo Petrovic - Mika Alas, lived in one of those houses.
During the construction of his house, he influenced the architect, so the house is in line with his way of life and affinities. His balcony overlooks the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers because that was his wish. He had a winery in the basement and a chessboard above the balcony.
The wreath is located between the Cathedral Church and the Residence of Princess Ljubica on one side, and the river bank on the other side.
I like to watch the river from here. There is never a crowd and I can rest and think in peace. This is where I have made some important decisions in my life.
There used to be the National Library that was destroyed during the bombing of Belgrade in 1941.
I feel great sadness when I pass by the ruins of this library. The value of destroyed books is invaluable. It is written here that the remains of the National Library are like scars from childhood. For some, it is a trauma, for some a reminder, and for tourists a mystery.
On the way back, we passed the oldest school in Belgrade "King Petar I". Here it is.
As well as next to the oldest restaurant "kafana" in Belgrade called Question Mark.
My son wanted us to take a photo of this bear on the street, which attracted the attention of passers-by.
There were also street dancers and musicians to whom my son likes to give money.
Along the way, I took a few more photos.
My son insisted that we enter the gallery where handicrafts from Russia were exhibited because he is fascinated by "babushka", a Russian wooden doll. ๐
Interesting objects can be seen here.
We stayed mostly near the fountain where my son drew geometric shapes with water and imagined holding a concert. ๐
It's never boring with him and I enjoyed the walk.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
Jelena
