Happy mid-week to everyone, and welcome to Wednesday Walk! These photographs capture the first major walk I took with my wife and friends in the city of Rome, right after stepping out of the train station—because if there was one thing we were absolutely clear on, it was that we wanted to explore the city on foot so as not to miss a single detail. I experienced the same emotions as always, allowing myself to be captivated by the architecture; yet in Italy, I believe that art is synonymous with the street—something evident not only in the sculptures and fountains that peek out from every corner, but also in the design, colors, cobblestone streets, and narrow pathways...
In general, the layout of most of the places I visited featured a large square with an imposing Catholic church facing it, a square that typically also boasted a towering obelisk. What did vary slightly, however, was the presence of a fountain situated on either side of the obelisk. Just as I do in my own country, I walked through the streets, falling in love with every detail—whether by gazing down at the pavement beneath my feet or by turning my eyes toward the skies above. In Rome, it seems that the taller a building stands, the richer it is in artistic and architectural details—so much so that one feels compelled to sit down for a while to truly observe and uncover them all.
I’m not sure what the best part of this walk was... The fact that I was exploring a new city on the European continent; that I did so with my wife; that I was accompanied by two of my best friends; the art found around every corner; the fact that it was a first-time experience; or even the simple fact that it happened to be a Wednesday—just like the name of this community, but brought to life. We were incredibly excited for so many reasons. This was, in fact, just the first of many walks; later that very day—in the afternoon—we were scheduled to visit the Colosseum, but there were still many hours to go. So, as we explored the area, we also kept an eye out for places to eat and spots where we could exchange our currency for the local cash. That is how we stumbled—quite by accident—upon the Trevi Fountain, though that wouldn't be the day of our official visit! 😅
There was simply no way that this day—and that first walk through Rome—could be anything other than special. Yes, we happened to be out during the hours when tourists take over the streets, but so what? We were tourists, too! 😅 It was lovely to see the Trevi Fountain during those early hours on Wednesday—though just look at the crowds! We went back early Saturday morning, and that worked out perfectly; I feel it made for a truly special conclusion to this walking tour. Afterward, we grabbed lunch at a McDonald's; we couldn't find anywhere else to eat quickly, as our scheduled time for the Colosseum was fast approaching and we were quite a distance away. You could say we were learning the ropes the hard way—but we were happy nonetheless! 🙏 Thanks for reading and for your wonderful support; I hope you continue to have the very best of days! ✌️
