The living room couches finally arrived after 'camping out' for just over a month. While it's pure luxury compared to camping chairs, I haven't been sitting on my laurels. Curve balls are no friends of mine, but they keep on bouncing my way. I will tell you more about that some other time, but it involves my older brother, who had some awful mishaps! He lives alone, needed some TLC and a little fattening up, and who better to look after him than his old sister! Who also had a little drama, but that's for another day. What I'm leading up to is that we both had to start hitting the road. By that, I mean going for a walk regularly.
What better place to go for regular walks right here at my new domain. as shared previously for 's Wednesday Walk.
Our route took us from my apartment to the bowling green next to the estate clubhouse and back. My brother was using a crutch when we first started, but was brave enough to leave his crutches at home and walk unaided today. I'd been driving past this little bridge but had no idea where it was leading. There are a couple of gentle hills.
This large residential block overlooks a small lake/pond that I did not know existed right next to the road, which is further below. A resident passed us on her way to exercise class and told me this Cormorant sits there most days. I would not mind having a tranquil view like this from my apartment, but I'm sure it must get chilly here in wintertime! It truly is a bird lover's paradise, and weaver's nests are seen everywhere.
The gardens outside the homes are beautifully kept, mostly indigenous, with many succulents, as well as other colourful flowers.
Many little roads lead off to other mini-villages inside the main estate, all with French names like Alsace, Picardi, Versailles, and so forth. This is a massive estate with over seven hundred homes and apartments in total.
The day started with the sky a deep blue and no clouds in sight, till fluffy white clouds showed up while we were walking. By the time we got back, we saw darker clouds so I made a dash to take the washing off the line because suddenly the light breeze turned into an icy wind. I know I'm talking a lot about the weather, but it is much colder up this way, as I've said before.
The bowling green has been dressed, so there still are small patches of fertilizer peering out. The tennis courts are in the background.
Time to turn around, we made it up the hill, and now it's the downhill, which actually is more difficult when you're nursing an injury. Once I'm able, I will be joining an exercise class and aqua aerobics.
Our time has improved from thirty minutes to twenty minutes. He walked unaided today.
But we spot more interesting and pretty plants along the way. These very pretty clusters of flowers that look like miniature pompoms, are seen as invasive by some, and they are called pink knotweed or pinkhead smartweed. Can you see the bee to the right? It obviously is having a feast.
An evergreen succulent indigenous shrub called the Barberton Senecio caught my eye.
Almost home, and this couple sat watching us from their little garden.
And we're back at home! I've been inspired by all the pretty gardens to add some colour to my little garden, but as they say, all in good time.
Rome wasn't built in one day!
