
Don't like when the politicians put their names on the park signs of the people.. They love to get "free" advertisement for themselves with our tax dollar....
This area was once a cranberry farm where they dammed a creek forming a pond, "Sweezy Pond" which was used to flood canals where they grew the berries.

It's about a 1,000 foot straight walk to the pond, then a trail around the pond.

Must be over 50 years or more since cranberries where grown here. Today the shallow pond that fed the canals has lots of lily pads.

The evergreen trees on the far side are White Cedar, not found in many places on Long Island.



If you look closely in the middle of the photo above you can see a small bog ...



Up ahead on the trail are the remains of a concrete structure that was used to regulate the water flow.

Cranberries are low-growing, woody, vine-like shrubs that need acidic soil, cool temperatures, and lots of moisture that this area provided perfectly.
