Who likes to walk while it is raining? I know, I would not melt with a bit of rain. Also, there are some inventions, like the umbrella and waterproof boots, so a walk would really not be a problem this Wednesday. But it is already happening for a few days, I haven't seen the blue sky and sun. Just for a short time, and then it starts to rain again. We would see here just grey scenes, wild sea with big waves. Enough reasons why these cute horses from a walk some time ago are coming now to my #Wednesdaywalk.
A walk that happened maybe some two weeks ago, I am not really sure. Many animals crossed my path, horses, donkeys, goats, a cat and caterpillars. Yes, I know, I took the photos of the caterpillar's nests after posted those photos with Pine Processionary caterpillars. Yes, I checked it now, it was one week ago.
Clear skies with the sun, adorning it. And bringing some spring vibes, that is how this walk felt like. I managed to have some free time (not to exaggerate, some two hours) and it was spent on getting a bit out from the routine. When you want to be efficient and do all the tasks that have to be done, you forget about yourself and things that are good for your health. For example, a walk where you can just breathe and not work around anything. Trying even not to think about anything :)
Seeing these cuties was also great. One donkey and two horses in one yard. I like to connect with them, and at least greet them. Letting them sniff my hand and cuddle their snout became the tradition. Well, not with these, as I saw them for the first time. However, with cats and goats, I already made friends.
I didn't have anything to offer them as a snack, so they got bored from just cuddles. They walked away from the fence letting me know: bring next time some yummy snacks.
Accepting the reality they don't need my attention anymore, I had no other choice than walk away too. I search for the next creature maybe? Four-legged one, if I can set preferences. Voila: a cat hiding in the top of a fence and behind some branches. It was not scared and I already know this cat. It likes cuddles, but this time it was impossible to reach it. It was not in the mood to come down closer to me. Well, cuddles maybe the next time, kitty?
Oh, we are here to meet those caterpillars. Not some good ones, so I will not cuddle them. I suggest you don't do it either when you meet this variety, Pine Processionary caterpillars. Their hair is toxic and can be dangerous for children and pets when getting in touch. Every spring we see so many of these nests.
They are active and toxic exactly in these times, during the spring. You can see sometimes a long procession formed by the fully-grown caterpillars when they come out to search soil, bury themselves and form cocoons.
When a dog inhales their hair, it can get an allergic reaction, swollen tongue and can end badly. Many dogs, if not noticed in time, die. If they are lucky and the owner notices the problem on time, the veterinarian's help should be sought immediately.
Some nasty creatures, right?
Anyway, we better move forward and meet our last visitors in this post. The goats that we all already know very well. They are actually in a different path, not close to the horses/donkey/cat gang. They have their shelter close to the river, and whenever we walk there I see them and try to greet them. No cuddles this time. The small ones were playing and jumping around and the adults were not interested in me. No food - no snout to be cuddled. I guess I have to take with me always some veggies, just in case. If I am hungry or I meet them.
The plot where they live looks a bit like a mess. But what do I know? Maybe a great place for goats has to look like this. They have some piles of firewood where they climb and jump around, food and water.
My friends, that are veterinarians said the goats look healthy. Let us trust them, they are the professionals in the field. I am just someone who likes to find time to take a walk and have good company as these animals. What better than bringing it to the #wednesdaywalk initiative?
