Hello everyone, how are you? I am happy to join you in a virtual Wednesday walk for the first time. Although it is a working day, I used my free time to take a walk near the school where I work and will share my walk with you.
I work as a music teacher at a school for children with special needs. Once a week I work in a school located in a small place near Belgrade, called Grocka, and the other days I work in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
Grocka is a place that belongs to Belgrade, but somehow it is a city in itself. I like to say, a small town in a big city. It is located along the banks of the Danube. The quay is very nicely arranged, and there is never a crowd. People in my city prefer other more popular places along the Danube, and that is why Grocka is always peaceful and good for rest, especially after a hard day's work. I took the opportunity and after school, I went down to the Danube.
Sometimes I come here with my students. The river relaxes them and has a positive impact. Classes in nature are my favorite classes.
The center of the town has been retained in its original form. The facade on the buildings has remained the same, the street is paved with cubes and the walls are made of stone.
I like to walk here. The locals are well-meaning people. I got free cherries or apricots here many times. Grocka is a place where there are a lot of orchards and the sweetest fruit I have ever tasted.
In the middle of the promenade is the bridge under which the river Gročica passes.
In the center is the church built by the famous Ilija Garašanin.
He was the first Minister of the Interior in my country. He was responsible for the army, the police. He opened the first agricultural school, a military academy, and a weapons factory.
It is good when we have a corner near the workplace where we can feel calm and free and where we can regain our energy and get ready for a new working day.
