Hello, thank you for joining me for another sunset beach walk. This week's walk begins a few hundred feet south of where last week's walk began. These few hundred feet are water, though, and it takes about 20 minutes to travel by car from one spot to the other. Apparently, 3 teenagers swam across this channel on the July 4th holiday which can be quite dangerous as boats go pretty fast through there.
We parked on the lot for the South Jetty which is part of Venice. We are always excited to walk on the beach because we see something miraculous every time we go. This walk was on Sunday which is a busy night on Venice Beach as it is the night of the drum circle.
We didn't let the sign stop us from having fun.
As we walk past the rocks we notice all of the seaweed that has been brought in by the currents.
There happens to be an area free from the seaweed so we place our towels there as we intend to swim after we walk to the drum circle and back.
The only ones that don't seem happy with our walk this evening are the terns. They made a lot of noise as they flew out over the water as we walk by only to land there again when we've passed.
There were some interesting colors in the seaweed that washed up.
The wind is at our backs as we approach Venice Beach so we still cannot hear the drums when we reach the first lifeguard tower. The volleyball players were making quite the joyous ruckus, though.
We can hear them now as we approach the second lifeguard tower. They are set up right behind it.
The circle here is much smaller than the one by the North jetty but still lively and well performed by the drummers, dancers, and hoopers.
Our favorite dancer by far is this guy. The parrot was grooving to the drums moving its neck around and bending its legs to the beat.
The sunset, per usual for Gulf coast Florida, is breathtaking.
We love to observe during our walks and it usually is the wildlife that catches our eye. Tonight, we watched a father guiding his two sons as they learn how to surf. I felt the love shared by this family as I watched them. The father was helping the youngest by pushing the board his son was standing on. He made it all the way to the shore on his last attempt. Bravo!
Another thing that we spotted on the walk was a beautiful piece of coral that washed onto the shore.
We made it back to our towels and noticed we had a new neighbor that decided to kick sand all over mine. There are crab holes every few feet up and down this beach. They mostly stay in their holes when there are people around. This one decided to put his house right next to us but couldn't be bothered to come out and say hi.
A refreshing dip in the salt water and now it's time to head home.
Have a wonderful night!
