The "travel bug" is waking up again and I have the desire to make another trip somewhere... I have a long list of places that I would like to visit, but at this moment, I don't have any specific place... But, just a desire to go somewhere! 😃
As it's not really a good moment to do the trip, the obvious solution to "suppress" this "need" is to remind me of my last trip to Portugal! I didn't share all my photos (and adventures) with you guys, so, maybe it's time to get back on track... The final destination was Lisbon and we spent the most time there, and this is my last post from that city... In this compilation, you will see some of the photos from all 3 days that I didn't publish in my previous posts... I will try to remember where we were going and when... Just to train my old, demented brain... lol...
This was one of the streets close to our apartment on the way to Castillo de San Jorge... Every time when I look at the Google map of Lisbon, trying to find the place where it was, I notice one hostel with "interestingly name"... It is called We Hate F Tourists - Hostel... looool... Nice name...
Another interesting thing is the "simple architecture" of 3-story buildings... They look so common and ordinary, but if someone would show me the photo, I would guess it that's from Portugal... Is it because of these small, iron balconies, or the shape of the building, I don't know... They are just different from others in other cities in Europe...
As the sign under says, this was a beautiful Church of São Vicente de Fora, which was on our way to the castle... Not exactly, but enough close to making a short detour to visit it... It is not just a church as it has also another part (on the right side of the photo above), where was the old monastery, which is now converted into a kind-of museum...
The whole complex is one of the most important buildings in Portugal... The monastery was founded in 1147, but it was reconstructed in the 17th century, and around that time, the church was built too... The photo under is taken in the small yard in front of the monastery entrance...
We are back on the streets again, and the photo above is a public playground for dogs!!! We have those in Spain too, but I have never seen something like this... You can come with your pet and train it, or just have fun with all these interesting ramps for jumping, crawling, etc... It looks fun to just see it, I can just imagine how dogs enjoy there!
This was probably one of the prettiest, most common buildings in Lisbon! So simple, but still, so beautiful... Do you like it?
This photo is from one of the souvenir shops where you can find your surname (family name) if you are Portuguese... I suppose that these are the most common surnames in the country, or they are specific to Lisbon?
As you can see by the orange colors, we are close to the evening hours, after our visit to the castle, we were headed to Mercado da Ribeira, or you can find it also by the Time Our Market in some places and maps...
From the outside, it looks like one of the old buildings, but it was actually opened 9 years ago! It has over 30 restaurants and kiosks, and some of the world-famous chefs are preparing food there!
It is an "ordinary" food hall, but, in Lisbon, nothing is "just ordinary"... As we were there after the New Year celebration, it was still decorated with Christmas lights and it looked amazing... Maybe it would be better "visible" in photos if I were taken them later, but it is what it is...
This was a small passage to toilets where you can find posters of establishments at the market...
Unfortunately, these guys didn't have a bright future... They have inside the water tank of one of the restaurants and I suppose that they have finished in someone's plate...
We were on our way back to the city center to catch a taxi after more than 10km of walking that day... I can't find what was this building and if someone knows, please let me know... It was some official building, like a tribunal, or something similar... To be honest, the thing that got my attention was this sculpture (photo under) of three bugs (probably representing people)... I suppose they are raising their voice against injustice... or it's just my imagination talking... 😂
These last 3 photos were taken on another day... I like those evening hours when everything is so peaceful, on the sea (in this case river), with sunset in the background... I could easily imagine myself on this little boat, taking a nap while it moves slowly on the water...
If you are not comfortable on small boats, you can take a bigger one... For example, one of the cruisers that travel to many destinations of the world from the Lisbon Cruise Port... We didn't go by this one, but rather with a car the very next day in the morning... Leaving Lisbon in a hope that we will be back to visit the rest of this beautiful European city!
Goodbye Lisbon! But, still not goodbye to Portugal... Stay tuned...
Thank you for your valuable time,
ph
