Few sights in Japan are more iconic than Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately the view from Tokyo is often obstructed by mountains, buildings or low elevation. So when you are walking around the city it's always nice when you can catch a glimpse of the majestic volcano. Like yesterday when I was out on a 7km walk looking for office space and burning off some Christmas dinner calories. At first I was just looking to get a nice sunset picture.
However, as I approached the top of a hill I looked off in the distance and there the volcano was.
The atmosphere was producing an interesting flare effect as the sun went down.
I quickly started walking around looking for a better vantage point to capture the sunset and volcano.
While the view was nice, I just couldn't find a spot I was looking for. I do like this picture though, the juxtaposition of suburban Tokyo with the giant. Reminiscent of a 60's era Godzilla film.
The last shot was from an elementary school.
It made me wonder, if you could see Mt. Fuji everyday from your home, office or school, would the view still be special? For me it's always a treat to see because I am not able to see it regularly. One thing I know, the more I explore Tokyo, the more I look forward to seeing these views.
In closing, I caught this view of Fuji a few days ago while driving down a hill. It was spectacular to see.
If you zoom in you can see the sunset lit up a low cloud over Fuji making it look like an eruption with lava flowing down the side. I wish I had a better camera with me to catch it. Maybe next time!
