My entry for the #wednesdaywalk community, as hosted by .
The intent was to traverse another path through a new prairie this evening to get my #wednesdaywalk in. The gnats, however, made the hike unbearable. Not thinking to put any insect repellent on beforehand, the moment I stopped, the gnats attacked. Hard. Like in my ears, my eyes, forehead...everywhere. So I more or less skipped the stops and ran for my life...
I then came across a pathway through some older pine trees...and for whatever reason, the gnats seemed to lose their way. I was then able to catch my breath and shoot some photos of this "Hall of Trees." What a scene.
And smell...I do love the smell of a pine tree ridge in the middle of the forest. With a little breeze in the air, the bugs seemed to be kept at bay. And that, my fellow Hiveans, let me enjoy the early evening spring walk amid the forest within the prairie.
I think this trail is also used by mountain bikers. Thankfully, no mountain bikers were encountered tonight...I don't have a problem with them, and I used to mountain bike quite a bit, but they do sometimes come upon you fast and furious. No a jumping out the way required of me tonight thankfully!
After a brief sitdown on some quarry rocks, I took a few more moments of peace before heading back into gnat country. Listening to the birds and breeze, and enjoying that smell...a perfect night in the Driftless Area to be had.
Then back to the bugs!
Thanks for checking out my #wednesdaywalk post! I hope everyone reading this had a wonderful Wednesday too. Until next week...
