An entry for the #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by .
Today’s walk was a good one…timely too. I headed yet again up the nearby bluff to take a look at the oak tree regeneration field I noticed last week. It’s a pretty cool idea. The area used to be a forest, but over the years, the trees were cut down. The city has done quite a bit of good work on top of this bluff; the prairie trails I've shared on Hive before are near here too. It’s amazing how progressive our Parks, Recreation, & Forestry group has been in the past 10 years or so. We are very fortunate here with all the chaos in the world.
I love oak trees. When you read about the symbolism of the oak, the literature seems to always lead you to the Druids and Celts. Speculation exists “druid” could be Celtic for “knower of the oak tree.” It’s a beautiful tree.
Much research on the matter typically mentions the idea that the Druid revered the mighty oak as the everlasting Deity. If you really dig, you might even read of how the Mysteries of the Thrice Great Hermes found their home in the oak forests of Northern Europe. That's quite a loaded statement!
I didn't figure out the Mysteries today, Eleusinian or otherwise, but I did reflect on life. This space is the perfect example of how life can change. With a little love and effort, this space went from a field of weeds to the start of an oak grove.
The mighty oak is now ready to grow and let people enjoy the grove for the next 100 years. It's a very regenerative principle. And that in of itself is pretty damn sacred, I'd dare say.
This is and will continue to be a special place...I look so forward to watching this field grow over time. I will have to revisit and share images of this special place as the year turns to fall, then winter, spring, and summer.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my #wednesdaywalk! Until next week...hoping everyone had a wonderful Wednesday too!
