As I turned the corner on my walk, I realized I was getting close to Roger and Lyndie’s house.

I always slow down a little when I pass it. Their place has a quiet kind of charm and is simple.

It’s an English Tudor built in 1929 for Dr. and Mrs. William Eckart, and it even shows up in Explore Historic Woodland, that little walking‑tour booklet about town. Roger and Lyndie are the third owners of this home.

Woodland really earns its nickname as a “museum of housing styles,” and this house is a good example.

The wide shingled roofline across the front, and the sharp‑faced dormers sit neatly above the windows. The Tudor style shows itself right away in the steep front gable and the big casement windows. They catch the morning and evening light in a way that makes the whole place feel settled.

The rounded front door is one of my favorite parts. It is trimmed with half‑timbering that hints at old Medieval framing. It’s a small detail, but it gives the house so much character. It’s not flashy, but it gives the house a sense of history you can feel even from the sidewalk. You can imagine the hands that built it almost a century ago, shaping something meant to last.

The house sits back from the street. A wide lawn stretches out in front, and the English‑style garden with its mix of shrubs, flowers, and whatever happens to be blooming that season. It’s the kind of garden that looks cared for without looking fussy.

Walking past, I always get the same feeling of a mix of appreciation and calm. And sometimes, noticing something beautiful on an ordinary walk is enough to make the day feel a little fuller.
