It finally decided to get cold around here for #wednesdaywalk by
Last week there was lots of fog but the lake wasn't frozen over. This week it is totally frozen.
I suspect it might be solid enough to go skating. But I wouldn't want to test it just yet...
Someone was walking out on the edges to test the thickness of the ice. I didn't see a big break in the ice so the ice is probably safe.
The school next to the lake is nice an ominous against the morning light. Sometimes they flood the football field with water to get a smoother ice skating rink than the rough ice on the lake.
Here is a closeup of the rough ice. I can barely even skate on smooth ice.
I decided to walk a bit further on a running path nearby. The light made an nice bright spot off in the distance. Trying to walk fast on this path is impossible because the ice is so compacted and smooth from all the runners packing it solid.
Here is a cold squirrel I saw. I think it was chewing on bark.
I also spotted a red bellied woodpecker. Imagine trying to peck a tree in the cold, what a headache.
There was also a downy woodpecker going to town on a tree. Maybe there are some grubs deep inside the tree they are hunting for...
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-) Hopefully I can get some snow laden shots for next #wednesdaywalk
