Here are a few squirrels I've seen over the past month prepping for winter for this #wednesdaywalk by
They are all in a hurry to gather up as many acorns, walnuts and other storable food they can find. They always look surprised at me wondering if I am there to steal their food or something.
Then its off to bury their treasures. The trick is not letting the other squirrels see where their stash is.
This one definitely thought I was there to steal its walnut.
Off it ran to find a good hiding place.
They all seem to stash them near the bases of trees, possibly because its easier to dig in the dirt there.
Now it is looking at me wondering if I saw it's secret hiding place.
Nothing here but some dirt, there are definitely no walnuts stashed around my tree...
This one is specializing in collecting acorns.
This one doesn't like the looks of a photographer poking around its vicinity. I suspect it might have babies up in the tree somewhere.
Here she is retrieving something from her stash.
Right now they are still collecting as many nuts as they can. Better get them all hidden before the ground gets frozen. Who knows how many different acorns and walnuts they forget about and accidentally plant a tree.
This one looked like a juvenile. It will have to start learning about prepping from the other squirrels.
For now it is harvesting the last of the crab apples. I doubt these store very well, she better move on to collecting acorns before its too late. Or maybe her strategy is to observe from high up in the tree where all the other squirrels stashes are and she'll sneak around swiping food all winter.
That's all for now, soon I'll be trying to get some snow squirrel shots.
