Here is a walk to a greenhouse of orchids for this #wednesdaywalk by
We did our usual walk in the forest, but the paths were very muddy as it was a warm day that melted all the snow. The lakes were generating tons of fog everywhere. Finally we decided to walk in a less muddy environment.
Time to go the a multiacre greenhouse full of orchids.
Various wings of the greenhouse had common ones that you see at most stores. Right now is the blooming season.
They pulled some nice samples out to sell to visitors.
Then of course they also have rare and fancy ones. We've tried keeping lady slippers before but they require a special environment that our house can't provide.
I started looking at the structures of the greenhouse and noticed all sorts of interesting pulleys and pipes along with humidity fans.
This greasy bicycle chain thing probably opens up panels on the roof to let out humidity if it gets too hot inside.
I think various regions have subtle environment changes to compel them to grow so they always have some to sell to various stores. Most of the greenhouses are full of varying flowerless orchids.
Then when they do bloom they put them in cooler areas as that is what triggers their blooms.
In the meantime they have quite a system of tying them up to look all the same. I wonder if they are pointing the stems towards the sun here? They had them all pointing south maybe it helps them bloom in a certain way.
Another feature of each wing is a loudspeaker that plays music for the plants. I've read classical music is best for plant growth but here they played classic rock.
Meanwhile under all the flower beds there is an accumulation of moss. They could probably introduce some critters down here like red velvet mites and other things that like moss. I had trouble keeping my toddler from splashing in these troughs.
In the meantime she had fun walking the skinny pathway between all the flower beds.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
