Train travel is fun in India. One of the cheapest mode of transport than airways. While Mumbai locals train are called the lifeline of Mumbai as it caters the travel need of the localities. Similarly For a long distance journey too it is a blessing too. Sometimes people may be caught in a day or two or three days inside the train when they have to move from one corner to another corner.
Yesterday, I also embarked on a train journey that ended up in 16hrs. Covering a distance of around 1400 km.
Many people assume it to be a sitting journey inside a train but our railways have sleeper coaches too that make long journey little confortable. The set up inside the train is little congested with ample services, like bed rolls, toileteries, cleanliness etc. What I like most is the Railway's continous effort in getting better and bringing improvement. Not with the services but also with the train coaches. From a normal red rusted train coaches to now colourful coaches. Mere looks of it give a good travelling vibes.
At same time, I think they need to take a look at some of railway station. The small town railwsy station are not much developed. Still they appear little fascinating to me as they have some old style architecture building.
Look at those window, who have made that little extension with iron grills on it. I am still confuse as far as it usage. The little extra block in window is useless but that is from the pre independence era. Renovating them definatelly took a heavy cost. It is not that our railways is not working towards modification or development. There were many changes happen and government is still planning to do more. But covering entire railway station in the country is a humongous task.
So far they have introduce digitization in the railway. From online reservations to display sign board on platform.
| Ticket status | Station display |
The LCD display unit has been installed at many station. It shows you the actual status of your ticket. Though it is now old practice. People now look at the charting on their mobile. I think they need to discontinue this but people having no smartphone this helps in locating their seats. There are no worries for the foods at station. As we have many kiosks. So even if you have not brought any food along, do not worry with these food kiosks.
These types of kiosks can be found at every railway station in India. Their rates are on the upper side. They have all kind of food items. From pacakaged chips & cookies to Indian snacks & meals. They also have Tea and Coffee vending machine to serve hot bevereges along with packaged water bottles. But only issue is that one have limited time to get the items, as the train generally stops for 2 min in some stations to 5 min in some. The more quick you are the better it is to have foodings available.
You might have notice, even late at night these kiosks operate. But they remain open till 10PM or 11PM. I make moat of my train journey in observing people and their behaviours. It is alwsys fun and interesting to find people of many aspects.
After covering, 1400km in train, finally I get down at my station, 3.45 AM and thankfully I found an autos (tuk-tuk) for my home.
The city is glowing as ever it does. Bustling with people, vehicles, Illuminated with lights and bulbs. A complete change of set up. From a rural set up to a metropolitan city, things gets changed tremendously. But life is all about adjusting and keep moving ahead.
Finally I reached home and took a little rest before getting back to mobile screen. Hope you find this little moments worth rewarding.
