There was a warm sunny day before Thanksgiving that just said, take a break and go to the lake. Mind you, it is only 5 minutes from my home and the same for Irondequoit Bay on the opposite side of the road. Two bodies of water offering many opportunities for people to enjoy all summer long.
As we were heading there, I said why don't we go to the park at the pier first for something different to do. The following photos are of this park where a lot of people go to fish and walk out onto the long pier.
Mika gets so excited when we tell her we are going to the park for a walk. It is the only time she like to go for a car ride.
There is a creek that flows through the park and empties into the Lake. The water level was so low which surprised me. I'd never seen it like that on other visits.
You could see most of the creek bed and it only had about 8" of water except where a few deep pools near the bridge.
You can tell how shallow it is when a large fish isn't even covered by the water. I could see half a dozen of them all along the creek. I don't know what kind of fish they were, but they were all about 2 1/2 - 3 ' long.
Mika decided to take a stroll along the creek and had a hoot of a time sniffing and watching all the squirrels.
Finally, she decided to turn around and head back towards the Lake.
You can see that this is where the creek ends and people were fishing. Two young children were tossing stones into the lake; I think they were trying to get them to skip as mom was assisting them.
I stayed on the bridge enjoying the waves while hubby and Mika strolled to the pier.
There are a few benches along the path where you can rest and enjoy the relaxing view.
The pier isn't very long but the water is deep at the end of it. I could see that three different people were fishing at the end.
The waves were gently rolling onto the shore, and I was so glad that we took time to visit this park too.
Irondequoit Bay
This is Sandbar Park that is a great place to walk Mika. The sidewalks are perfect for us older folks to enjoy a long stroll. One side is the bay, and the other side of the road is Lake Ontario. The best of both worlds for our neighborhood.
Mika making sure I'm still following behind her on her grand adventure. She always makes sure I'm keeping up along the walk.
The trees still had a few leaves on them, but the cattails were all turning brown at the water's edge.
I don't remember ever coming to the bay in the fall and I wish I had taken time when the leaves were at their peak. The scenery was still lovely all the same.
By the time we had walked throughout both parks, both of us were tiring out, and I think Mika would have kept on going a lot longer. She has more stamina than we do. lol
Needless to say, when we got home it was time for a little porch time with momma, it was warm enough to do one last day before the temperature plummeted that week.
Thank you for this fun, weekly #wednesdaywalk posting community. I hope you all enjoyed our visit to the parks.
