We had a new park open this spring and finally found time to take Mika for a #walkabout to explore the park. Years ago a tragic event took out many of the original homes that were on the land between Lake Ontario and our Irondequoit Bay.
This renovation project took over three years to complete, and I have to say I love that our town decided to preserve the land for the community to enjoy. Let's take a walk, and I will share it with you.
These walkways go throughout the entire length of the park on both sides of the roadway. They have done an amazing job landscaping the park with young trees and flowering shrubs.
You can see concrete sitting areas along the paths where you can relax and enjoy the scenery.
It was a beautiful day to walk along the lake and the bay. There are benches along the shore where people enjoy the peaceful sound of the rolling waves.
Taking one of the paths leads you to an area where they have constructed places for the children to play.
This is a slide built into the landscape which I thought was really nice.
This hanging swing was interesting and a child was having fun with his father. We waited to get some pictures after they were done playing.
Check out this cool climbing cube. It looked like a giant spider web and I bet the children love meandering their way through those ropes. All the wood posts are perfect for sitting while the kids play too.
As we continued on our walk to the end of the lakeside, we came upon this family of geese grazing by the path. When we approached them with the dog, they crossed the road to the bay side of the park.
The water was pretty calm on the bay, we didn't see any fishermen that morning.
All the geese filed one by one, waddling their little butts into the water as we got close to them.
There was a large dock that the park built and we walked down to it to look at all the lilypads. As we were standing there many of the flowers started to pop open. Now, that was an enjoyable moment.
When we were leaving two kayaks went past the dock. They were the only people we saw on the bay that day. Besides the father and son, we were the only ones taking a walk that morning. We literally had the park to ourselves. This week we are going to take Mika for another walk so she can explore it all over again.
I think by that happy face our little girl liked her visit to Sandbar Park. How about you?
Thank you for this fun, weekly #wednesdaywalk posting community.
Until next time, this is Sunscape
