In the afternoon I had an appointment in one of the outskirts of the city, near the subway terminus. I rarely go to this area, so I decided to take the opportunity to find something interesting and new to me. A quick search on the Internet, a more thorough analysis of the map - and I was already sitting in a bus, to drive a few stops and find myself on the shore of Lake Lahti spill.
This lake is located near the Gulf of Finland, the lake is separated from the water area of the Gulf by a not very wide strip of land. In former times, this embankment could be under water during floods, but now it is well fortified, and a highway and railroad pass through it. Lake Lahti spill is a shallow lake with low marshy shores, reeds and rushes are the predominant vegetation near the shoreline.
I had read that a hiking trail had recently been established along the lake shore, and it was this trail that was the goal of my walk. I could not immediately find the beginning of the trail. As it turned out, I should have studied the articles more carefully: to begin with, I came right up to a fence that surrounded some construction site, and I had to walk around it for a long time. This part of the walk was not very interesting:) But eventually I came to the bank of the river Gluharka, which flows into the lake, and soon found myself at the beginning of the trail.
Some Internet sources have called this trail an eco-hiking trail, but here they are just using a nice buzzword. Eco-trails have become very popular lately, a good way to organize hikers so that they enjoy the hike without harming nature. But this trail can rather be called a walking trail, it is a good resting place for locals.
The wooden planking stretches along the marshy shore and allows for a quiet walk, enjoying the views, but without the risk of getting your feet wet. Several gazebos, playgrounds, and exercise areas have been built next to the trail.
Soon I reached the shore of Lake Lahti spill. The lake is already covered with solid transparent ice. I noticed from afar skaters enjoying the opportunity to try out this huge ice rink.
The wooden planking led me to a small ledge from which I could step directly onto the ice. Towards me were two massive fishermen in full winter gear. I decided that since the ice could support the weight of these men, I had nothing to worry about.
The second part of my walk was on the ice of the lake. I tried to stay close to the shore, where the ice was not as smooth and slippery, but at the end of the walk I stepped back a little to the center to take a picture of the Lakhta Center tower.
