To the north of St. Petersburg is a very picturesque area. The isthmus between the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ladoga is where you will find lakes, pine forests, miles of beautiful scenery and tons of fresh air. These are great places for walks as well as for a suburban vacation.
On this September day I decided to go to the Tarkhovka dacha settlement and walk along the shore of the lake called Sestroretsky Spill (Sestroretskiy Razliv).
I got off the train at the small platform and headed toward the lake. I walked down an alleyway with the telling name "Bathing Alley". Bathing season was over, but I vividly imagined children with rubber inflatable toys in their hands, running toward the lake, and their parents walking behind them with heavy bags that held everything they needed: mats for lying on the beach, towels, lemonade, and so on.
The pine trees grow on the sandy hills by the lake, and a walk in such a place is a great pleasure. If the weather is warm enough and there is no wind, you can sit for a long time on one of these hills, enjoying a beautiful day and not thinking about anything, completely immersed in contemplation.
After a walk around the lake, I decided to take a short walk around the dacha village. This is an old dacha village, and here you can see not only modern cottages, but also old wooden houses, with quaint balconies, turrets, and wooden lace around the windows and on the edges of the eaves.
