Hello to all Hivians
Have you been out and about, had your Wednesday walk today?
Follow me, well follow the leader, follow the Magpies as we head into my favourite local park, Beveridge Park in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland.
I do love going up in the morning as it is usually only dog walkers that are there.
And look at this gorgeous wee pup...
Okay so he is not so wee, but a gorgeous pup and he loves chasing his tennis ball.
Spring time in Scotland can be a right old funny place, as you never know what the weather will be like.
This was dry, however the grass had morning dew and my shoes were wet once I got myself home!
We have been hammered with Avian Flu and thousands of wild birds last year died and we are still not out of the woods.
So I never know what I will see when I visit the pond at Beveridge Park.
I was greeted with this seagull albeit he was on the island, so it was a zoom job to capture him.
Then I saw one diving. All good, I am not a seagull fan really as they are like pests and cause havoc.
However they are part of the ecosystem and we need them.
There were plenty of tufted ducks (these ones are males), I just love their colouring and call them Panda ducks!
Can you guess the colour of the females?
Did you guess brown and black?
Woohoo well done if you did!
One thing that I found fascinating was the lack of Mallard ducks, in fact the pond was eerily empty, apart from those two seagulls that was it for the seagulls.
The only ducks were about twenty tufted ducks. That is fair enough, things are fluid!
Before we go on I just have to show you that wee tuft in full flow on that male!
Now you see the name tufted duck is 100% appropriate!
Where are the pies I can hear some of you sing!
Well as you might know, the swan population is also fluid at the moment. The family shuttle between this pond in Beveridge Park and the disused fishing site at Raith Lake.
Can you see blueberry pie in the distance?
Let's get up a bit closer...
He is all grown up now!
I must get back to Raith Lake and see what of the rest of the -pie family is upto!
Isn't he handsome!
The wee brown pellets are special swan and duck food which I get using Hive rewards. So thank you to everyone that upvotes my posts, the birds and animals and me of course appreciate it!
They are so majestic I think! The weather was a bit nippy so I had to keep moving. À un de ces quatre Blueberry Pie.
Peaking between the shrubs are trees and you can see by the bare limbs we are just starting spring. Soon there will be buds and leaves and things will be different.
Unfortunately not everything has made it through the winter unscathed...
It won't be long before those clumps of trees are surrounded by long wild grass and insects galore!
And we do have evergreens too!
Of course, spring in Scotland means daffodils and these are such a happy flower!
Every time I see a flower I did think of and #alwaysaflower
It was now time to wander into the fountain garden and the scene of a pleasant surprise!
I did have some woofing company though!
Somebody was fluffing happy! So was the dog!
Do you remember that I said there were no Mallard ducks to be seen on the pond?
Well have a closer look at the fountain picture above.
Did you see something? Let me get a bit closer for you!
Do you see on the left of the fountain standing on the stone surround is ...
Yes Marvin and Miranda Mallard were having a snooze! Marvin does it one legged!
Actually they were preening themselves and guess what happened next ...
Percy the pigeon even had to stop what he was doing and watch ...
and then bam ... like a speeding bullet ...
Oh no! Disaster ...
My eyes were shut but have no fear ...
Marvin and Miranda Mallard were not dummies!!!
Yep they just flew to the fountain base...
Ducks 1 Dogs 0 the latest score!
Of course I had to feed the ducks (once the pup had gone)
I had to head back though, as work was calling.
All in all it was a cracking breath of fresh air. Nature is awesome, there is always something nearby which will put a smile on your face 😁
