Hi dear Hive community!
Our Wednesday walk was not so long this time. We are staying with our friends in Lalipur, Kathmandu. Since this area is quiet calm, we are able to walk around and explore this district.
Firstly, we walked the streets and small side macadam streets. On the way we passed many small shops offering essential food and lots of crisps, and repairing shops for motorbikes.
After around half an hour of walking through the city and observing the houses and people, we were going more and more to the outskirts where were rice fields and more land than houses. It was more peacful and this was really suiting for us. The air quality is uncomfortable to the one in the mountains, on top of that it is so much dust from macadam roads that people from covid on, just keep using face mask to avoid breathing in the polluted air.
Next to the river on a big grass field was standing the temple and some other building fitting together with it. The style of the temple is similar to the old temples found in Dalbar square or Gorkha. We looked around it, see the status and god the temple was dedicated to and move forward to the interesting looking bridge nearby.
The big bridges in Nepal are mostly made as suspension bridges, which are very photogenic. This type of bridges are good for very good distances. During our travel we saw many of them. Underneath it goes a river, which is so full of all kind of trash and plastic. There you can see many dogs and birds feasting on them in a hope to find some food. As well the toilet residuals goes there, so the smell while walking on the bridge is horrible. We could not spend more time there, other tourist coming there didnt mind the smell and the ugly view on the trash.
We were sad to witness this still happening in 2024! People cannot just throw trash everywhere where they feel like it. Maybe 10 years ago you would understand this more, as they were living without plastic, and only throwing away organic trash. But still, nothing has changed even though everyone has tiktok and social media.
