Prince's Island Park is an urban park in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located on an island in the Bow River, north of downtown Calgary. It was named after Peter Anthony Prince, who, in 1947, donated the land where the park is currently located to the City of Calgary.
Prince's Island Park is a beautiful, highly used park in downtown Calgary that holds many large events throughout the year including the Canada Day celebration and Calgary Folk Festival.

But let's get back to our story. We were told that it was springtime in Calgary, and we planned to start our tours to the city parks. But as the weather here changes very quickly, cold and snow joined us on our weekly walk!
Since it was spring break, we went there anyway! I was curious to see the Peace Bridge that is in this park.
The bridge is only for pedestrians and cyclists, its 125 meters long serves as a shortcut for downtown and the Sunnyside neighborhood.
A bit of culture: The bridge was designed by Santiago Calatrava and its name alludes to its location on 17th Avenue SW, south of the Bow River. It is also close to Memorial Drive, an avenue named after Canadian soldiers who fought in WW1.
Between its unique design and its eye-catching hue, Calgary's Peace Bridge has become a cultural icon within the downtown core. Its bright red color stands out against both the river beneath and the buildings behind it, while paying homage to the red of Canada's flag.

Anyway, the park is over 20 hectares, and it would be IMPOSSIBLE to see it in 1 day! We went back and this week the day was nice, warm with positive temperatures and the park already looking like spring: people running, dogs walking and children playing!
This time we went to the other side, towards the South. There is a restaurant in the middle of the park that will be worth another post!

O Parque de Prince's Island é um parque urbano na cidade de Calgary, Alberta, Canadá. Situa-se numa ilha do Rio Bow, a norte do centro de Calgary. Foi-lhe dado o nome de Peter Anthony Prince, que, em 1947, doou o terreno onde atualmente se localiza o parque na Cidade de Calgary.
Prince's Island Park é um belo parque altamente utilizado no centro de Calgary que realiza muitos grandes eventos ao longo do ano, incluindo a celebração do Dia do Canadá e o Festival Folclórico de Calgary.

Mas vamos retornar ao meu “causo”. Nos disseram que era primavera em Calgary, e nos planejamos em começar a aprofundar nossos passeios aos parques da cidade. porém como aqui o clima muda muito rápido, frio e neve nos acompanharam na caminhada semanal!
Como era o Spring break, fomos assim mesmo! Estava curiosa para conhecer a Peace Bridge que fica neste parque.
A ponte é só para pedestres e ciclistas, ela tem 125metros e é um atalho entre o centro e o bairro de Sunnyside.

Com um design único e o seu tom chamativo, a Ponte da Paz de Calgary tornou-se um ícone cultural dentro do centro da cidade. A sua cor vermelha brilhante destaca-se tanto contra o rio por baixo como contra os edifícios por detrás dele, ao mesmo tempo que presta homenagem ao vermelho da bandeira do Canadá.
De qualquer forma, o parque tem mais de 20 hectares e seria IMPOSSIVEL conhecê-lo em 1 dia! Voltamos! E esta semana o dia estava gostoso, calor de temperaturas positivas e o parque já com cara de primavera: pessoas correndo, cachorros passeando e crianças brincando!
Desta vez fomos pro outro lado, em direção ao Sul. Tem um restaurante no meio do parque que vai valer outro post!
