Last Wednesday, I went to the office after a long while, probably 2 or 3 months. But after my meetings, I got so tired and couldn't think anymore so when I learned that my friend was in Daikanyama, which was just a 15-minute walk from the office, I immediately left the office to go to her. And yes, that was undertime but it was all good. I already took care of it so no worries.
Daikanyama is the neighborhood's name and is part of Shibuya City (Shibuya-ku). It's a stylish neighborhood, very different from the usual neighborhoods that I know, and far from the neon lights and the shrines and temples that Japan is very known for.
I passed by an elementary school and was surprised it's already closed at 6 PM. Children go home early I see. Or probably playing in the park I just passed.
When I saw this uphill, what came to my mind was Ah, Daikanyama never fails. It's really a mountain. The yama in its name means mountain in English.
When I saw the name of this fashion accessories store, I couldn't help but message my friend with an edited version of this photo with the words "it took longer than usual but I'm almost there" beside sowi. She got the joke! Hurray! π
I always wonder what that tall slim structure is. It's in the Shibuya station's direction.
This time, it's downhill. But I enjoyed the sky view. I always finish work late so when I go out of the house (or sometimes doesn't go out), it's always dark already. Seeing the sky like this was refreshing for me.
This area is probably the restaurants area. I heard Daikanyama is known for its brunch spots.
Dubbed the Little Brooklyn of Tokyo, Daikanyama is actually a small neighborhood. I passed by lots of fashion-related shops, and figured my partner would like to come here because his interest is fashion.
I passed by tailor shops, perfume stores, shoe stores, boots shop, and many local brand shops.
It's probably not a 15-minute walk if you're not me. It just took a while because I had to stop every now and then to admire and soak the neighborhood's energy.
My friend was in Urth Cafe, munching and having coffee while studying and waiting for me. They close early so we couldn't stay longer. We had to move and look for somewhere nice for me to eat and for us to talk.
Did you know that during the entire time I was walking, I couldn't find a convenience store? This Natural Lawson was the first convenience store I found ever since leaving the office area.
While walking around the town, we passed by this plant. We were not sure what this is. It looks like a flower. Do you know what this is?
We passed by a few restaurants but nothing caught my attention. Eventually, our walk led us to Tsutaya Books, which I've read before is the biggest stylish bookstore in Tokyo. It's always crowded during the weekends and even on a Wednesday night, there were only a few vacant seats. I'm planning to come back here to check more about this bookstore so I will probably talk more about that next time, if ever I could come back. LOL
After Tsutaya, we turned back. We walked far from the train station so we decided to just go nearby the station to see if there were nice restaurants or maybe we could find one along the way. We thought this mall would have some restaurants but they were closed early.
And surprisingly, after we passed by this corridor, it's already the bridge connecting to the train station. We tried to find restaurants on the ground level but we couldn't find one.
At first, I thought that living in this place wouldn't be so bad because it's stylish and kinda different. But after walking around, we couldn't find a good place to eat, there were only a few convenience stores that we passed by (probably 1 or 2), and we couldn't find a good and cheap grocery store. Living here isn't suitable for me was my conclusion.
That ends my Wednesday walk. And oh, about dinner? Well, we went to another town to eat. It was hard to find a great restaurant here that's still open til late.
