Paseo Street / La Calle Paseo

Hello friends:

Today is Wednesday again and this week I took a walk along one of the main streets of the aforementioned district or Vedado in the capital of Cuba.

Taking advantage of the fact that I had to do some business with my husband, we decided to walk along this avenue to take in the fresh air that circulates there, at the same time that we enjoyed the visual scenery of the surroundings.

Hola amigos:

Hoy es miércoles nuevamente y esta semana estuve haciendo un paseo por una de las calles principales del reparto citado o Vedado en la capital de Cuba.

Aprovechando que tenía que hacer unas gestiones con mi esposo, decidimos caminar sobre esta avenida para tomar el sabroso aire fresco que por ahí circula, a la vez que disfrutamos todo el paisaje visual del entorno.

The Plaza de la Revolución, just to the right at the intersection of Paseo Street and Independencia Avenue, is one of the largest public squares in the world where many people congregate for important events.

La Plaza de la Revolución, justo a la derecha en la intersección de la calle Paseo y la Avenida Independencia, es una de las plazas públicas más grandes del mundo donde se congregan muchas personas en eventos importantes.

It is a great tourist attraction and is where carriages are available for hire to offer a tour of Havana.

Resulta de gran atracción turística y en ella se concentran carros de disponibles para su alquiler con el objetivo que ofrecen un recorrido por La Habana.

Large lighting towers provide the necessary light on event nights. I like to see how they move them to different height levels.

Grandes torres de iluminación ponen la luz necesaria en las noches de eventos. Me gusta ver cómo las desplazan a diferentes niveles de altura.

This building known as the scraping of the square and the statue monument house a historical memorial dedicated to the great Cuban thinker José Martí which I have yet to visit, as I have never been there.

Esta construcción conocida como la raspadura de la la plaza y la estatua monumento albergan un memorial histórico dedicado al gran pensador cubano José Martí al que tengo pendiente una visita, pues nunca he estado allí.

The square is followed by a flyover and a road underneath it that connects to Independence Avenue.

A continuación de la plaza le sigue un paso elevado y por debajo de él pasa una vía de circulación vial que se comunica con la avenida Independencia.

Passing this crossroads you will find on the right the National Theatre of Cuba, where important artistic events of our country are held. It is also the venue for some activities such as university graduations. It is a big theatre and very beautiful inside, I have been here several times. In the basement there is a discotheque and on the top floor there is a pianobar. It is a cultural complex for all tastes.

Pasando este cruce se encuentra a la derecha el Teatro Nacional de Cuba, donde se celebran importantes eventos artísticos de nuestro país. También se hacen algunas actividades como las graduaciones de la universidad. Es un teatro grande y muy bonito en su interior, he estado aquí varias veces. En su sótano hay una discoteca y en la planta superior un pianobar. Es un conjunto cultural para todo gusto.

A few metres further on I came across a park that belongs to the neighbourhood next to this street and it caught my attention, as it looked as if it had been recently repaired and cared for. Its benches, lights and even its vegetation were very well preserved.

Unos metros más adelante me encontré con un parque que pertenece al barrio vecino a esta calle y me llamó la atención, pues parecía que estaba recientemente reparado y cuidado. Sus bancos, sus luminarias y hasta su vegetación estaban muy bien conservados.

We continued walking, chatting and observing every detail I could reach with my phone's camera and we came across this monument on the ground indicating to me that we had reached the corner of Zapata and Paseo. This is an important intersection, as it is an interchange point for routes.

Continuamos caminando conversando y observando cada detalle que podía alcanzar con la cámara de mi teléfono y nos encontramos con este monumento en el suelo me indica que habíamos llegado a la esquina de Zapata y Paseo. Esta es una intersección importante, pues es un punto de intercambio de rutas.

Crossing Calle Zapata, we continue along Paseo and start walking along its central divider. Wide pavements, large gardens and a variety of vegetation among leafy and flowering bushes accompany us for the rest of the way.

Cruzando la calle Zapata, continuamos por Paseo y comenzamos a caminar por su separador central. Aceras anchas, grandes jardines y una vegetación variada entre arbustos frondosos y florecidos nos acompañan por todo el resto del camino.

With different designs on each block of the cemented areas and garden, it makes for a fun trip, as no one gets bored walking on the differently shaped pavements.

Con diseños diferentes en cada cuadra de las áreas cementadas y jardín hacen un viaje divertido, pues nadie se aburre caminando sobre sus aceras que tienen formas diferentes.

My walk took me to Fifth Street, where there is a monument to Major General Alejandro Rodríguez y Velasco, who was the first mayor of the city.

Unfortunately I was not able to get to Malecón Street, which is where this street ends (or begins), but I have yet to return to this place and take some photos of the extraordinary view that the Malecón offers.

Mi paseo llegó hasta la calle quinta, donde se encuentra este monumento al Mayor General Alejandro Rodríguez y Velasco que fuera el primer alcalde de la ciudad.

Desafortunadamente no pude llegar hasta la Calle Malecón que es donde termina (o empieza esta calle), pero me queda pendiente volver por este lugar y tomar algunas fotos de la vista extraordinaria que ofrece el malecón habanero.
