Si vives en Margarita ir a la playa siempre será el mejor plan, y eso fue justamente lo que pesaron mis amigos del club de ajedrez, quienes decidieron que un compartir en la playa sería ideal para matar dos pájaros de un solo tiro: disfrutar de un gran día de compañerismo y diversión y recaudar fondos para el próximo torneo nacional que tienen los chicos pronto, y aunque Matías ya no forma parte del club, yo sigo siendo parte de esta linda familia, ya que tengo a dos grandes amigas en ella, así que por supuesto me invitaron y claro que no me negué.
If you live in Margarita, going to the beach is always the best plan, and that’s exactly what my friends from the chess club thought; they decided that a get-together on the beach would be the perfect way to kill two birds with one stone: to enjoy a great day of camaraderie and fun, and to raise funds for the upcoming national tournament the lads have coming up soon. And although Matías is no longer part of the club, I’m still part of this lovely family, as I have two great friends in it, so of course they invited me and naturally I didn’t say no.
Como les digo la actividad sería con doble finalidad, ya que la idea era la recaudación de fondos a través de la venta de una deliciosa sopa de res a leña preparada en la playa, la cual se vendería tanto entre los asistentes del club como a las personas que se encontraran cerca de nosotros, y la playa que escogieron para la actividad fue Playa Guacuco, una de las favoritas de los margariteños.
Yo me organicé con mi amiga Claudimar para irnos juntas en su carro, y cerca de las 12:30 p.m. llegamos a la playa donde ya se encontraba buena parte del club disfrutando de la playa y la sopa ya en la leña en pleno proceso de cocción y con una pinta súper deli.
As I said, the event had a dual purpose, as the idea was to raise funds by selling delicious wood-fired beef soup prepared on the beach, which would be sold both to club members and to people in the vicinity. The beach chosen for the event was Guacuco Beach, a favourite among the locals.
I arranged with my friend Claudimar to go together in her car, and at around 12.30 pm we arrived at the beach where a good number of the club members were already enjoying the beach, and the soup was already on the fire, in the middle of cooking and looking absolutely delicious.
Lo primero que hice fue dar una vuelta de reconocimiento por la playa, ya que tenía más de siete años que no iba a Guacuco, y la verdad la vi súper cambiada; muy linda como siempre, pero con muchísima más gente de lo que recordaba gracias a la cantidad de clubes de playa que ahora ocupan una gran parte de la misma, y la verdad es que ese ambiente de tanto movimiento que le gusta a la mayoría, a mí no me gusta para nada, así que después de mi caminata regresé hasta donde se encontraba mi grupo, que por dicha estaba bastante alejado de todos los clubes 🤣
Una vez de vuelta, nos dispusimos para disfrutar del día, así que extendimos varias mantas sobre la arena, y algunas mamitas y yo, nos pusimos a jugar a las cartas, y la verdad es que fue un momento de muchas risas y diversión, justo lo que nos hace falta a las mamás para recargar baterías y despejar la mente, pero este disfrute no duró por mucho tiempo, ya que varias tenían niños pequeños con ellas y tocaba estar pendiente, pero de inmediato Claudi y yo encontramos algo más que hacer 🤣
The first thing I did was take a look around the beach, as it had been over seven years since I’d last been to Guacuco, and to be honest, I found it had changed a lot; it was as lovely as ever, but there were far more people than I remembered, thanks to the number of beach clubs that now occupy a large part of it, and the truth is that I really don’t like that bustling atmosphere that most people enjoy, so after my walk I went back to where my group was, which luckily was quite a way away from all the clubs 🤣
Once back, we settled in to enjoy the day, so we spread out several blankets on the sand, and some of the mums and I started playing cards. To be honest, it was a time of lots of laughter and fun – just what we mums need to recharge our batteries and clear our minds. But this break didn’t last long, as several of them had young children with them and had to keep an eye on them, but Claudi and I immediately found something else to do 🤣
Ese "algo más" fue una partida de Scrable que jugamos con algunos de los chicos, y aunque el scrable se juega de 4 personas, terminamos más de 6 jugando, ya que algunos se acercaron a ayudar y a compartir un rato y justo en medio de la partida llegó la hora de disfrutar de la deliciosa sopa, pero el juego no se detuvo, así que era un poquito de sopa, y un ratito jugando 🤣
Después de haber perdido al Scrable llegó el momento de jugar dominó, porque margariteño que no juega dominó en un compartir, no es margariteño, así que hice equipo con uno de los chicos y Claudimar con otro, y por suerte en este juego sí gané junto con mi compañero, quien por cierto dudaba de mis habilidades jugando dominó, pero al final se tuvo que tragar sus palabras porque jugué realmente bien 🤣
That "something extra" was a game of Scrabble we played with some of the lads, and although Scrabble is meant to be played by four people, there ended up being more than six of us playing, as a few others dropped by to help out and spend some time with us. Right in the middle of the game, it was time to enjoy the delicious soup, but the game didn’t stop, so it was a bit of soup, and a bit of playing 🤣
After losing at Scrabble, it was time to play dominoes, because a Margariteño who doesn’t play dominoes at a get-together isn’t a Margariteño, so I teamed up with one of the lads and Claudimar with another, and luckily in this game I did win alongside my partner, who, by the way, had doubted my domino-playing skills, but in the end he had to eat his words because I played really well 🤣
La verdad es que fue un día realmente genial, además fue súper lindo poder reunirme con este grupo de personas con quien compartí casi todos mis fines de semana por casi cuatro años, así que volver a estar con ellos y disfrutar de las ocurrencias de los chicos fue una gran bendición, y en ese ambiente, pues mucho más.
The truth is, it was a really great day; it was also lovely to catch up with this group of people with whom I spent almost every weekend for nearly four years, so being with them again and enjoying their banter was a real blessing – and in that atmosphere, all the more so.
