community, I hope you are all well. Today I want to tell you that for the past few months I have been coming to Tacarigua every Tuesday and Thursday to train at the gym. I practice athletics and part of my routine includes weight training to get stronger. At first, I only came to train, sweat, and go home. But little by little, this little town has been surprising me. I always came by car with my mom, straight to the gym and back, without paying much attention to the town. But recently, I had to walk a long way to catch the bus, and that's when I was able to see everything with new eyes.

That day I was tired from training, and I just wanted to get to the bus stop to catch the bus and go to the other side, where my dad was going to pick me up. It didn't occur to me to take pictures or anything, but as I walked, I noticed the details of the place.
Ese día venía cansado del entrenamiento, y solo quería llegar a la parada para montarme en el bus y seguir al otro lado, donde mi papá me iba a buscar. No se me ocurrió tomar fotos ni nada, pero mientras caminaba, me fui fijando en los detalles del lugar.
I was struck by how many people were sitting outside their homes, chatting, enjoying the cool air, watching the cars go by. I don't see that where I live, because there, almost everyone stays inside their homes with the doors closed. In Tacarigua, everything looks different, warmer, more like a village. The people are very friendly, they greet you, smile at you, and if they see you looking a little lost, they immediately ask if you need help. I couldn't find the bus stop my coach had told me about, but some people kindly gave me directions.
Me llamó mucho la atención que muchas personas estaban sentadas en la puerta de sus casas, conversando, tomando fresco, viendo los carros pasar. Eso no lo veo donde yo vivo, porque allá casi todo el mundo está metido en su casa, con la puerta cerrada. En Tacarigua todo se ve diferente, como más cálido, más de pueblo. La gente es muy amable, te saludan, te sonríen y si te ven medio perdido, enseguida te preguntan si necesitas ayuda, a mí me pasó que no daba con la parada que me había indicado mi entrenador, pero unas personas amablemente me orientaron.
After that walk, I was left feeling curious. So another day, when things were calmer, I decided to take some photos, although they don't look very good because we were driving in the car. I took photos of the landscape, which is beautiful, with mountains in the background. I also passed by a place where they sell woven baskets, hammocks, and traditional handicrafts. My mom told me that these things are very traditional in that town, and I thought it was cool to see how they are still made. My mom says that a long time ago there were several places selling these items, but today only that one place remains.
Después de esa caminata, me quedó la curiosidad. Así que otro día, con más calma, decidí tomar algunas foticos, no se ven muy bien porque veníamos rodando en el carro. Le tomé fotos al paisaje, que es bonito, con montañas al fondo. También pasé por un lugar donde venden cestas tejidas, hamacas y artesanías típicas. Mi mamá me dijo que esas cosas son muy tradicionales de ese pueblo y me pareció fino ver cómo todavía se hacen. Mi mamá dice que hace mucho tiempo habían varias ventas de estos artículos, hoy en día solo queda ese lugar.
I also passed by the Corazón de Jesús church, which is the patron saint of the town. It is a simple church, but it looks beautiful and you can tell that it is important to the people. The streets are narrow, like those in towns with history, and that makes it even more special.
También pasé por la iglesia Corazón de Jesús, que es el patrona del pueblo. Es una iglesia sencilla pero se ve bonita y se nota que es importante para su gente. Las calles son angostas, como de esos pueblos con historia y eso lo hace más especial.
Now, every time I go to train, I take advantage of the scenery, and if I have a little time, I go for a walk and take a few photos. I realize that sometimes you pass by places without really seeing them, and when you stop for a moment, you discover things that are worthwhile.
Ahora, cada vez que vaya a entrenar, voy aprovechar de ver el paisaje y si tengo un poco de tiempo voy a caminar y tomaré una que otra foto. Me doy cuenta de que a veces uno pasa por los lugares sin verlos de verdad y cuando te detienes un momento, descubres cosas que valen la pena.
