Round 21
Theme is TREES OF THE WORLD
Emerald cedars are one of my favorite trees to plant by the house to enhance the landscape. They stay the same all seasons.
Hubby and I planted the trees about nine years ago and they grow about one foot a year~ can reach twenty feet in height and will also get wider. They are planted on the North side which I thought would help in the winter to keep the harsh winds and blowing snow at bay. Not so much but maybe when they get wider!
Why the trees are different sizes? I don’t know as they were all the same size when planted.
I has intended to trim the new growth off the top each year but as the old saying goes,
“ The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
A couple grackles arrive every spring and nest in the tallest tree by the house to have their babies. They like the dense close branches of the beautiful bright green foliage so their nest is not detected.
This is one of the Emerald cedars by the deck. I have used it to decorate with lights for Christmas but it is also getting really tall. Another good intention I had to keep it trimmed. Now I’m afraid to cut much off it, besides new growth, as I might kill it.
The Emerald cedars strive in this growing zone, are maintenance free and keep their conical shape.
Location: Prince Edward Island, Canada.
