Yesterday, I completed my last special order/commission of 2021, and got the stones on their way to their new home in New Mexico.
Matched Chakra Stone set
Normally, I don't do very many special commissions, but this one left it very open to me to do pretty much what I wanted, creatively speaking.
Our friend had actually purchased a set of "Chakra Balancing Stones" when he was in our area, several years ago, but ended up gifting them to a friend.
The replacement set I made for him is actually much nicer than the original set.
These sets are fairly tricky to create because I have to start out with seven stones that are all about the same size, thickness, shape and color... and all have to be smooth enough that they can be painted on.
The difficulty in just assembling the set is one of the reasons I prefer to sell a set I already have made... because there is no guarantees as to how much beach combing I will have to do to get a set together.
As luck would have it, this was a set of really nice stones we'd put together after a trip to the Pacific coast back in August... and they were just waiting around for inspiration to strike.
I don't actually make these larger stone sets very often because the amount of work means they end up needed to be priced at about $200.
The second part of the commission was a large meditation stone for healing purposes.
Our friend goes in for back surgery at the beginning of January, and wanted something to be able to "sit with" and just look at.
The stone I chose is about 4" (10cm) across and exceptionally smooth from nature's side. We actually found it at the coast during the same beach trip that resulted in the Chrakra stone set.
I opted for the colors that reminded me of sun and light, and the colors of the high desert of New Mexico where our friend lives.
Normally, a meditation stone of this size — keep in mind that it takes close to a week to complete — would sell for about $125.00 and a top quality Chakra Stone Set like this I would likely ask $225.00 for at a show.
However, I sent these out "on suspicion" and am leaving it up to our friend to decide what they are worth to him. "Whatever your heart and spirit guides you to do," was the message.
Whether he sends me $50 or $500, I shall consider it the "right" payment.
