Hello, I hope you are well. Today I am presenting a symbolic painting of a society that I was asked to represent as a gift.
It is a symbolic still life, painted in acrylic. The main subject is a gilded frame adorned with classical motifs that appears broken, surmounted by a compass held between two black hands (which join) shaped and sculpted in stone. The background is a gradient from sky blue (left) to beige/light beige (right), which gives an impression of space and depth.
The style is symbolic, surreal with a touch of realism, although my aim was to strive for hyperrealism. The strong contrasts are achieved through the bright gold of the frame versus the matte black of the hand, and the cool blue versus the warm tones of the frame. The work is meticulous on the reflections and volumes of the gilded frame. The composition is dynamic thanks to the diagonal of the frame and the compass. The frame represents traditional art or artistic conventions. The fact that it is broken or toppled suggests a questioning of established frameworks, a desire to break free from norms.
I painted this picture in Amsterdam acrylics for a private client. I didn't fully understand its meaning, but the client was very keen on it. The painting was completed in a single day without any real breaks.
This symbolic work, reproduced here, is one of the pieces on which I added no personal touch. Once finished, I gave it to the client as a gift.
Above, I present the different figures and stages of its creation.
Thank you for this brief read. Have a pleasant day.
