Hey everyone! I am new here 😀
I have been drawing and sketching for a while (still a beginner - novice) but I recently got myself a drawing tablet and I am so hyped about it. It is definitely different than traditional art but I could get used to the unbelievable efficiency! I am still struggling a bit but I hope to go on this digital art improvement journey on Hive and document it.
Here is Scarlet, my first sketch on it without using a reference. I really liked how she turned out and thought the bright red hair adds a unique punch to it. I will post my work one by one so I can explain my sketch flow.
1. The head base and line art detailing
In this section I mainly get a solid base for the head shape and the start points for the hair, the length can be varied later but the base gives a really good foundation to add to.
2. Adding details and Color Blotch
In this stage, I sort of give a color base to the line art and give more details as I see fit, nothing permanent though. This part mainly gives direction to my coloring later on.
3. Base Color intensification
Here I just extend the last step once I find a good match and cover the backdrop of the art with this. Great way for me to visualize the end product. I have turned off the line art layers over here so I can clearly get the shape I am going for.
4. Combination and Outlining Boundaries
Here I just turn on all layers and give outlines to where I want the final product to lie between. I purposefully set the hair boundaries too big, just felt like going for this style.
5. The Final Product - Scarlet
The line art layers are hidden and I work on detailing the outlines and give a depth to the colors making it look slightly 3D I guess.
Finally, Hope you all enjoyed this! I put in quite a bit of effort to understand the digital art using photoshop but I think I did well for my first time on it.
What do you guys suggest her name could be other than Scarlet? Please do comment, I am curious to know! 🤔
I am open to any and all constructive suggestions! Thank you for taking your time to view this, hope you liked it! Have a great day!
