Walking by a window, pausing to gauge her reflection in the mirror, Joju acknowledges her beauty with sighs of approval. To further do so, she reaches into the back pocket of denim jeans to take out her phone, a selfie never looked any better!
This piece has to be one of my favorites, it's where I tested the "less is more" theory, and it proved itself to be true!
PROCESS
I tend to build my compositions from the muse or focal point, it's almost like it tells me what it wants in the background. I started with a sketch of the muse. The arcs on her face are to help me get a better understanding on how to properly place her features.
This is a new thing I've been trying. I noticed a lot of artists tend to view their works or start it from a grayscale. It helps in properly distributing light and dark tones. It's been pretty useful. A proper use of chiaroscuro makes an art piece all the more awesome.
Next comes the line art.
It was really fun picking out colors for the palette, my aim was for the colors to be bright, juicy, sunny, and be complements of one another.
The next step was to make the wall the deciding factor in tying the whole piece together. Using tips I'd learnt from my previous paintings, I used purple and a yellow gray of some sorts to depict my shadows!
