🍆 Daily Painting – The 20-Minute Eggplant!
Hi guys!!!
OMG a super, super quick one today… and honestly this looks fabulous for the 20–30 minutes I spent on it.
Like I said — busy day, ballet chaos incoming, and I’m still trying to keep the “paint every single day for a month” challenge alive. The dishes hate me... but meh.
For those who are new here:
Daily painting means getting as much down as you can in a short sitting and calling it “complete enough.”
Perfection is not the requirement.
Momentum is.
struggling for perfection is where i loose it and don't learn... so i keep going. next next next... until i get something i WANT to redo and be perfect.
🎨 Today’s Painting – The Eggplant!
I’ve been wanting to paint an eggplant for ages but always thought it might be tricky.
Plot twist: it was super fast and super easy.
as you can see, it was a 20 min painting.
I grabbed one, sketched it, and went straight in.
Underpainting
Same as usual — a warm wash of:
- Burnt Sienna
- Raw Umber
- Tiny dab of Quin Magenta
I felt like the cool eggplant needed a warm base to glow off.
Background
Honestly the background took the longest — I repainted it three times and still don’t have the warm/cool balance quite right.
Not my favourite part of this one, but hey — daily painting life!
The Eggplant
The actual eggplant itself was SO quick:
Main colours:
- Quinacridone Magenta
- Ultramarine Blue
- Tiny touch Raw Umber (in the deep shadow zones)
- White (just a touch for highlights)
I swear the eggplant is like 5 brushstrokes.
Three minutes to lay in the shape, two more to do the highlights.
Never painted something so fast.
THIS is why daily painting is awesome... had this been a "big painting" i would have been like... no way... lets go back and spend 20 mins in the eggplant and i bet i would have fucked it up... however it was a daily painting and i was like RESULT!!!
Greens (the stem)
Another 4 minutes.
I used:
- Chromium Green
- Cad Yellow Medium
- Raw Umber
- Phthalo Green for a shadow punch
- White for the light edge
And that was it!
🎨 Colour List (for my fellow painters)
Underpainting: Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Quin Magenta
Eggplant body: Ultramarine, Quin Magenta, Napthol Crimson (optional), Raw Umber, White
Stem greens: Chromium Green, Cad Yellow Medium, Phthalo Green, Raw Umber, White
Shadow: Raw Umber + White + tiny Dioxazine Purple (estimate from the picture)
Background: White + Raw Umber + Raw Sienna + Cad Yellow Medium (estimate)
đź©° Life Update
Tomorrow we’re getting into the sticky end of ballet week — yikes.
I am not ahead of schedule, so we’ll see how the daily painting holds up.
perhaps it might be a "compilation" video or something tomorrow or friday (even worse of a day). see how we go.. althought actually it will be SUNDAY that will be the worst one... maybe i will take my paints TO the ballet concert that is on sunday. (its a mini one. not THE ballet concert) surely i can serve people snacks AND paint at the same time?
See ya folks!!!
