Daily Painting – Capsicum #3 (Red Background Edition!)
Ok folks… I hope you all like capsicum, because I did it again.
Here is the third one in this daily painting experimental season.
Painting number 16-ish in the challenge where I’m trying to paint and post a new piece every single day.
Naturally these are 1-hour wonders — quick, loose, nothing complicated.
Daily painting really keeps me just painting, which is exactly why I love it.
although... who is sick of capsicums... lol lol...
🎨 Today’s Painting – Capsicum #3
For this one, I played with a new composition and a completely different colour vibe.
Background Colours
A mix of:
- Reds
- White
- A decent amount of Cad Yellow Medium (same as in the capsicum)
- Raw Sienna to knock it back a bit
- And possibly a touch of blue/purple — I was working fast and those definitely made their way in
Foreground Colours
A little of the background mix, then:
- More yellow on the left
- More red on the right
- Raw Sienna
- White
Just enough variation to give the floor a bit of warmth and softness. and there is yellow in everything to pull together a tad.
Capsicum Colours
- Cad Yellow Medium
- Raw Sienna
- Red
- A small touch of purple in the deepest shadows
The Green Stalk
This actually has the most colours in the whole painting:
- Phthalo Green
- Chromium Green
- Ultramarine
- Cad Yellow
- Browns
- And even some red
It’s basically a buffet of whatever was on the palette — but it works! Again. i was not thinking very much at all with this. really and truely it was yeah.... that works... get it on there. i was also runnign out of time to go and collect the kids from school... so it just had to happen. Actually it was only ONE kid from school as i had the other one off with the cold that the little one had had LAST week...
🖌️ Method
This time I remembered to do the underpainting sketch first (small win).
Then I worked in this order:
- Background
- Foreground
- Capsicum last
Nice and simple. Like i said i was running outta time..
Tomorrow’s Painting – A Sky Study!
While working on this one I was also planning a big sky study for tomorrow.
It won’t be a strict daily painting — probably closer to 2 hours?
But still quick, loose, and fun.I have done an underpainting in sienna and then went over with just a transparent more orange colour.. i don't like the colour... but it should give some warmth to the painting?? we will see. But will talk about that tomorrow.
I’ve got a huge day tomorrow so I wanted to get a head start today.
ive missed out on gym for like 2 weeks with these darn kids home. During school holidays with them sleeping in i can duck out to the gym while they in bed, (husband home) but on school mornings, i can't do that as i NEED to be there to get them dressed and fed. so i miss out... sigh... the joy of being a MUM right?
Final Result
Hope you enjoy this one — see you tomorrow!
