The Last Day… and What a Day It Was
Today is the day — the LAST day of the challenge.
And naturally… on the last day… I have not yet actually painted a daily painting.
Well… okay… I did put in a sky on a new daily painting, so technically I started.
But then my little one walked in this morning (on DRESS REHEARSAL DAY, mind you), and something in my brain went:
“Mmmm… that child looks suspiciously warm…”
So I got the thermometer.
39.2°C.
Of course.
Cue tag-teaming Panadol and Nurofen every few hours just to get her functional enough to survive the rehearsal.
And honestly… EVERY single other kid there was sick too. It was like a plague camp backstage.
Whatever we didn’t have before today… we definitely all have now.
The whole thing was the usual dress rehearsal shit show — things going wrong left, right, and centre, teachers trying not to cry, kids either too hyper or half-dead with fever. I spent half the night running around with ice packs on various overheating dancers.
Anyway... so i thought about NOT painting... and then went... bugger it... i WILL
and i knocked out this little xmas bauble. to be fair i DID but in the underpainting yesterday... but discared it... and just revamped it in colour for today... but hey... that works right!
The Moment I Fell Over Like an Idiot
At one point I was side stage, in the dark, trying to avoid a random 4-year-old who had somehow escaped the safety of her designated holding pen (aka her group of mums).
I dodged her…
And absolutely wholloped my arm on something metal.
This was hours ago and the bruise hasn’t come out yet, but I can feel it.
I’m sure it will look stunning tomorrow.
🎨 The Painting Dilemma
Now… the painting.
I’m debating whether to finish the little bauble one I also started today…
BUT I really wanted the nice one of the kangaroos in the park for the final daily painting.
Except I am utterly exhausted.
Today’s dress rehearsal just wiped me out.
So we’ll see what happens in the morning.
📸 Photos From Today
As you can see… I didn’t take many.
Blue stage lights do NOT make for good photos, and honestly I was far too busy preventing children from melting, fainting, disappearing, or spontaneously combusting.
But here are the few I managed to grab.
And with that… we have reached the end of the wildest, stormiest, sick-kid-filled, costume-mountain-climbing, painting-every-day month I’ve ever lived through. AND i have the actual concert next weekend ! huzzah!!!!!
I’ll update tomorrow with whatever I manage to pull together for the final painting. the kangaroo one
Dance mum… OUT.
